I just shit myself guys, sorry for the language but I turned on my Lenser it was on for about 5 seconds then (LED). Exactly the same as the other very faint dot in an instant so I turned it off straight away,, SCREAMED so loud I scared the shit out of my bird, Tried it again a few minutes later and it's fine,,,,,, STILL ALIVE!!! I don't know what is going on any ideas, I don't need this STRESS in my life.

At this point I'd be blaming the driver... it is the same driver that the first diode ran on right?

I don't think he used the same driver that was in the first one that LEDed. Pretty sure he used a different driver this time. I've had that same thing happen to me before. It looked like it LEDed and then later it was fine. That doesn't bode well for this diode, as that is usually the sign that this one is about to fail for good also.

Edit: when I am using my PS to run a diode, I turn the current up but the voltage to 0 volts and turn the supply on. Then I short the leads together and connect them to my diode socket which has the diode plugged into it. Then I increase the voltage slowly until I see some light and then go back and forth between the current and voltage controls.

Actually it is the same xboost driver that killed the first one,I tested it thoroughly it was very stable and the soft start was even noticeable on my multi metre, therefore I saw no reason to change driver, Also Lifetime17 is using same driver and has never had an issue with the xboost, They are not dieing on startup like I said after 5seconds (reduced output in an instant) I took it to work with me last night and did not notice any issues at all,

Actually this driver I'm using was in a mini build for over 16 months with a PL 450b 120mw single mode diode and was repurposed for this build, it has never shown signs of issues before, Here's the build,

I talked to Jordan about these drivers and he said he switched to the Nano Boost drivers because he had too many complaints about diode failures with it and single mode diodes. Just thought you'd like to know.

Already new Paul, mentioned it before, spoke to him few days ago but like I just said before this xboost was in a build for 15months with a PL450b single mode and no issues same with Lifetime17!

I honestly think your too quick to post without reading the replies buddy no offence!

This is on page 2!

On advice from Jordan he's saying to stick with the nano on these single mode low power diodes not the xboost mini,

I know I said it before. But, even if that driver worked for years in another build, and even if it checks fine on a dummy load, not with a scope, with your meter, it doesn't mean that there isn't a problem with it now. Might be an intermittent problem, who knows. I do know that it possibly killed the diode before this one, and it looks shaky now. For a rare wavelength, I wouldn't skimp on trying to reuse a driver to save from using a new one. I only have one of these diodes and I am paying close attention to what happens to others before I build mine. I'm grateful that I know now that you used the same driver in this one, as I was sure you wouldn't do that after losing a diode before. It wouldn't be worth the chance.

I'm doing everyone a favour here , nothing to do with skimping everyone has been watching closely yeah if it does in fact LED again then we all know for pretty sure it's the xboost after all isn't that what we all want to know, I'm glad your grateful will keep you informed!

I'm sorry you're having so many problems with these diodes. I'm also inclined to believe it's the driver.

As of today I'm convinced to use only a linear driver with 3 batteries for these (I was going to use a boost in voltage mode followed by a linear).

Yeah There has been a few deaths now with this diode, so many problems! no not really only a scare, I could just change the driver, we will see, I have more so it's all good.

Oh I have many linear drivers but a 3 cell host just doesn't appeal to me.

Here's a vid guys!
