N00B-warning
I am electro-challenged and i need to know how beefy powersetup i need.
But i have actually use the searchfunction (and google), but couldnt find anything i understood;)

I just bought a 1.6W 808 laser.
Link:808nm-810nm 1.6W/1600mw Focusable/Industrial/Lab/IR Laser/With PSU | eBay

the info there is:

Output Power(mw): >1.6W(2W LD Inside)
Input Voltage(v): DC 5V
Operating Mode: CW
Transverse Mode: Near TEM00
Divergence,Full angle(mrad): =5
Power Stability(RMS/4 hrs):<5%
TTL: o-20KHZ

Now what amps should say a wallwart need to deliver at 5 volts?
Ohms law gets me 1.6/5=0.32 Amps which sounds very low to me.

thanks for Your time.

The first thing you will need is appropriate IR Laser Safety
Goggles/Glasses before your next purchase is a white cane
or Seeing Eye Dog...
Once you have those Safety Gogglers/Glasses you will need
a 5VDC power supply of at least 2 to 5 amps.

A 2Watt Laser Diode requires ~2.8Amps @2.2VDC then you
need to calculate in the inefficiency of that PS that need 5Volts...

Aye, get some goggles if you don't want to be blind the first time you use it - no, I am NOT joking.

You can't use the output power to determine the input requirements when it comes to lasers, though good for you using ohms law! Unfortunately lasers don't spit out all the energy you put in to them, there is a lot of loss.

Go for a 5V 5A power supply and you should not have any problems.

Got this sexy 808 goggles that came in a protective case so even they are protected from me ;)
But thanks for the waring. I never use canes... i snowboard ;)

Ill try to round up a 5amp supply thenk:)
I guessed as much for the ampdraw not being only for the output. Good this forum exists and this valuable group of people.

Thanks alot for the help guys :)
