hi
i would like to make a yellow laser by combining red and green lasers together. my problem is that i cannot do jayrobs tutorial as the dx pointer is 5mw and it would be confiscated by Australian customs. :cryyy:

does anyone know where i could buy some form of mirror that can combine 532nm light and 650nm light? i have some old sleds at home but am unsure if i should try to make a yellow laser with those optics as they are very small and i have read that it takes many, many hours to get them aligned right :(

any chance that i could simply use the ggw-h20l sled with the optics already were they are and attach laser modules to the inputs were the original laser diodes were attached?

thanks for your help, hugo. :thanks:

As far as i know, the better non-professional combiner for 532nm that we can find cheap, is the turning mirror in the PHR sled ..... it's a dichroic mirror that can reflect both BR and red, and left pass almost 90% of the green ..... so you can easily use it for combine green and red and obtain yellow, or for combine green and BR and obtain light blue .....

There are other combiners, sold in ebay, but they usually ask 45/50$ for each piece ..... not exactly "cheap" .....

The optic from the PHR sled works well. At 45 degrees its reflection for red (and bluray) seems really good - i havent measured it, but it looks like well over 90%. The same goes for green passing through the optic, little loss, but a few percent does get reflected the wrong way.

So if it can create yellow or light blue, is it possible to create white by combining green with both red and BR in the PHR sled? I've heard it can be done, but I want to be sure.

thanks benm and HIMNL9, ill check out the phrs optics, i might have some laying around. anyone thats tried doing this, how hard is it to actually get the lasers properly aligned?

i found a way of combining beams with the PBS cubes in the ggw sled. works great because i dont really need to fiddle around with alignment much, just stick the laser module were the original diodes where.

wow im really glad im getting into this laser stuff,i had no idea you could use a red and a green laser diode to create a yellow beam, thats freakin SICK can somone breifly explain (In simple terms) to me how somthing like that is done? i would actually begin trying that right now!

basically you just get a PBS cube that reflects certain wavelengths but passes some wavelengths through (or you could use a dichro). alignment is a real pain in the a$$ though... still haven't got mine properly aligned, but getting there.

Hi hugo,
Just like to mention that tho some have thought the PHR cube reflects based on wavelengths (this may have some effect) HIMNL9 took pictures that illustrates its mainly based on polarization. I haven't tried the ggw cube like your using but rotate your modules & check the results, might be the same as the PHR cube.

Hope to see your RGV when it stops fighting you & gives in. I always love RGV pics, nothing like having a full rainbow to play with.

Little Isaac,
if you haven't already please look into laser safety glasses for the colors your using. Also welcome to LPF, hope you enjoy your stay. :D

yes you need goggles for anything over 5mw, i would buy some if i was you. shining on a wall doesn't sound dangerous but the second you miss and hit something reflective could permanently blind you!
hugo.
