Does anyone know if either the 462nm or 465nm diodes will lase at 5mw?
I know the price of the diode is really expensive for only 5mw.
Would you think the visibility at 5mw would be a drastic increase versus the 450nm true 5mw diodes.

I thought I saw a diode on DTR's website that would lase that low. I cannot seem to find the picture of it though.

The 450nm 5mw I built is nice in a dark room and not usable at all in a lit room.

I'd be willing to spend up to 200.00 if I can get confirmation that the pointer would be usable at 465nm or 462nm 5mw.

I must have a pointer that is drastically different and usable in my classroom.
My 515nm Lightsaber just isn't "cutting" it anymore.

^Indeed!

A yellow(either 589nm or the rarer 593.5nm) would make a much bigger impression then a 462nm one :)

Yellow seems to always be about 400.00 or more from what I can tell. You are saying you've seen them for around 200?

Yes indeed. i'l try and dig up the site.some member here also sell it in the B/S/T section. i bought one from CNI reseller based in Australia.

Sometimes they pop their head around the forums, but that's a very rare occurrence. Normally they are about $300-$500 :)

Thanks yall, much appreciated.

Anyone have any data about the visibility of 465nm at 5mw though? (I still like blue too :))

Hi Trend,
Try giving Jordan an email he can help you out right away. He's good like that this way you know for sure about the 462nm and the 465nm to lase at 5mW. hope this helps a little..

even if it lases that low it will retain the relatively bad dot and beam profile

They don't lase that low, you can look at the data sheets as well as DTR's testing. I think 25mW is about the lowest, probably less than 20mW is possible with a 3 element lens, that should be low enough to use as a pointer if you're careful with it.

I kinda figured it would lase around 455nm if it did in fact lase. That's disappointing, but I kinda expected that answer. I suppose I can turn my 450nm up a bit, although I was really wanting it to stay at 5mw. Can't I have my cake and eat it too please. I really didn't/don't want to use filters to get it down to 5mw.

I've used the relative brightness calculator. I don't really like it's comparison. The disparity between 638nm and 515nm shows the 515nm to be far far brighter. It is brighter, yes. I wouldn't say that the numbers represent the appearance. It does seem to be more in line from 450nm to 515nm though, I would say it is about right for that one though. I rather ask if someone has experience with it. I value real world data... if it is obtainable :).

I think your best option right now would be just to go with DPSS 473... If you want a sky blue 5mW laser. As others have mentioned, closest to cyan you'll get at 5mW is around 455nm with a diode :/

I sometimes underdrive my NDB7675 to about 30-100mW by using a single battery (power fluctuates wildly because it's out of regulation). Don't think it will go as low as 5mW and the beam quality drops close to threshold (you *have* to use a 3 elements lens). The color is still lighter than my Dominator (which should be around 450-455nm) but it's surely not 462nm. Visibility is OK for pointer use, you can even see a little beam.

I really appreciate everyone's comments. I would love to have a 473nm dpss. The issue with those is the price. At that price I feel like the orange/yellow handhelds/pointers are within reach. The cool factor to price ratio seems to keep pointing to just get a yellow... I don't think I can justify a 400.00 laser to my wife though... Looks like I am back to the old beam combining idea. Granted it'll prolly be 15mw or so... I think that'll be fine and think I can get away for about 200.00 maybe.
