Re: With Pictures - Broken? - LaserLands 445/450nm 5mw Ebay Order

I had trouble with a 200mw 532 a while back, well early 2015 that I bought from laserlands for 69.99 it would ramp up and dim up down until it got some heat in it and finally settled in 15 seconds or more.

Anyway the LL guy said send a pic of it working so they know it arrived intact and was not damaged in mailing, so I did and they sent me another one, it still works well today.

But if it had been damaged in shipping then LL would not have replaced it.

I'm officially done waiting, I still don't have the replacement. I filed as did not receive item. I have allowed them the option to overnight a replacement. I want the laser, I really do... but 2 months is too long to wait. 10 days with no shipping changes when it is airmail it soo much.

Re: LaserLands 445/450nm 5mw - Replacement Received

I just received it. Updated OP. Pictures to come once I get done with "dehumidification"... I can't believe I am really putting the laser in rice... but I was advised by them to let it sit before powering it up to ensure there was no condensation from shipping.

Pretty odd, but I guess better safe than sorry. I'd be interested in what diode's in these. I really don't feel like condensation would be that big of an issue unless it was an open can with a somewhat open module.

trust me... I feel stupid even doing it... but if this one goes out I want to be able to say I followed their instructions to the T

I got it apart. It was easy once I realized that I had no choice but to soak it in alcohol. I couldn't see anything in particular that looked odd about the driver. I'm pretty sure the diode was toast anyway.

Re: LaserLands 445/450nm 5mw - Replacement Received

Hi, could you please take a photo of a diode's front view? i still wondering what kind of diode that is, as i have one pen just like yours -> http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/surprisingly-good-450nm-5mw-pointer-aliexpress-96937.html#post1414317

Sorry I've been gone a while. Newborn baby and all. I will as soon as I can. It's a normal 3.8mm diode. I didn't remove the diode from the module. There isn't much to see from the front. It's a diode in a can.

That's messed up. Any suspected cause of death?

I really don't want to accuse anyone of selling shoddy stuff purposely but lets take a look at the facts. I have received 2 broken 445nm lasers. The hosts are not cheap hosts.

My theory is that there are some of these pointers they sell that are known to have an issue.
Look at this link: $50.00
ONLY 5mw 2in1 Star Laser Pointer Pen 445nm 450nm Blue Ray Stage Show OSRAM LD in

They are selling "ONLY 5mw 2in1 Star Laser Pointer Pen 445nm 450nm Blue Ray Stage Show OSRAM LD in" for Nearly 50.00. I think these are tested good and they then include nice packaging and the star caps.

Then they have the ones that have some type of issue. I think it is something with the driver. I don't know. Cause why else would they sell what appears to be the same thing without the star caps for 20.00?

See this link: $20.00
<5mw 445nm 450nm Blue Laser Pointer Pen

I understand bulk and all... but how cheap can they really be getting these 445nm diodes?

Then I have my other purchases from them... Those were all great experiences. The diodes I have purchased from them were great. I could be really unlucky. I know it wasn't abuse on my end in any way. I am extremely careful. I even made a dust cap for it. It was kept in it's case with the batteries out. I marked the cap with a marker to remind me case positive. I just don't know what to think. I'm very upset. I spent 2 months of going to the mailbox waiting for this daggum thing. I should have just built the other diode I have into a host. I saw a pen for the price of a driver and jumped. Mistake...

Lesson Learned... Do it yourself.

It does seem pretty strange. I mean how do they even make a profit selling a pointer with a 445 diode for $17 with free shipping? They must be getting an unreal good deal on the diodes. Either that, or there's something wrong with them.

Most likely sourcing diodes that are out of spec and somehow did not pass QC, personally hate dealing with LaserLands their stuff is pretty expensive alot of the time except for a few exceptions.

i tried order 20 of these pens but just the modules no housing (so they'd be legal in aus) even though i was paying for shipping and getting them without the housing they quoted me the same price as getting the pen + shipping.
Glad i didnt end up getting them

I bought one some time ago for $30 and it's still fine, but it's in a NewWish host.
