hi i also had a question somewhat like connor9195s. is the above link to draghonlaser goggles good enough for 808nm light and up to how many mw? the OD seems quite low compared to others.
p.s. are there any other places to get IR goggles for around the same price as dragonlasers?
thanks
Yes. Zonestealth has different ones for the same price--> link

It uses a 100W incandescent bulb. To give off 4100 lumens after the reflector, it would have to give >45lm/W. Most incandescents offer no more than 20lm/W, so it's either magical, or BS. The only way to increase efficacy is to drastically lower lifetime. And their claimed 2000hrs lifetime is comparable to that of a typical halogen. the capacity of the battery is supposedly 1.4AH at 14V which is 20W/H. That gives a lifetime of 12min TOPS (15min is claimed) assuming you can drain the batteries completely that quickly without them blowing up.

It just doesn't add up. More than one of the specs must be lies.

Not too surprising, wouldnt be the first thing they lied about...

as long as were talking about uses for an IR laser, how effective would a 1W IR diode be for lighting a bowl of weed in a bong? (with safety glasses of course :D)

If it was focused, there would be a fire in the bowl.

So it would completely torch the bowl or would it be equivalent to using a lighter?

1W would actually be overkill IMO. As Dave stated the 'moistness' and quality of your herbs will affect the time it takes and amount of herb iginited by the laser. Ive found that 400+mWs of blu-ray makes for a good hit. Another thing to take into consideration is color, green or in some cases light green isnt going to be the easiest thing to light with lower power lasers, but if you light it once or twice with an actual lighter first, so the herb is darkened from being burned you will find it much easier to ignite, and with lower powered lasers. Ive got my 150+mW viper to 'smoke' the darkened herbs rather well for the power. But IMHO blu-ray would be a better bet for what your trying to acomplish:whistle:
And as you stated, saftey glasses are a MUST for these kind of activities

I was thinking of buying a 500mW IR laser from lasersman.com, but I was unsure of the quality. I assume the beam will be invisible. Will it be good at burning things? There is also a 300mw model but for 6 more dollars I want the 500mW. Please leave detailed info about it and your thoughts. I am a n00b and I would like to learn more about this laser. It says "certified power guaranteed" so that must mean something good. Thanks for the replies!

My advice on IR lasers.

DONT BUY ONE, if you not going to use it under Night Vision optics or similar device that can see the laser.

BUY a visible laser, for your and others safety, at least you can see where the dot/beam is pointing.
