Chris is going to be forever sorting out 1,000,000 ****** diodes  ;D

I kinda imagine we will find a skeleton in a 100 years, with a big pile of 'unsorted' on one side and a few half filled trays on the other... good luck!

The ones in the bins will be unsorted other than a hand full of each for a spot check to get an idea of what they are/were.

Was this an Ebay auction? Did you buy an entire manufacter's inventory with this?? I can only imagine how much this stuff cost... I'm sure, per item it's hardly anything, but with the amount of stuff, it had to be a good bit!

That would just be awesome.... I'd probably fail out of school just trying to look at everything, haha.

It's from Boston Laser Inc. The company shut down and auctioned off all their equipment.

Wow! I'd be in for a bag or 2 of those, maybe a C-Mount 5W diode or so. Good luck sorting them! I would offer to help you sort, but I'm in the UK, and don't have a power meter, so I would be of little help. I wish I could just blow $10K on an inventory of lasers ;)

Well I got' em today. Talk about a duke's mixture... Two of the bins had essentially gold plated scrap and two had working diodes that were a bit off spec, such as off wavelength, low or high threashold, mode hopping or??? I found a test paper and it gave reasons for rejection for everything from bad chip bonding to leads too short...

I found several multimode and single mode emitters in the bins- everything from 633 to 1500nm! I only sampled about 100 of the 9mm cans from each bin, I tested half of the bin of the multiwatt bars and they were all pretty much scrapped. I some that were working at a few watts or but i believe reliability is a major problem.

The coolest ones were 3W multimode emitters at 633nm!

Unfortunately there is no way to tell them from the others, they all look the same... :'(

The good news is that all the laser diodes ARE HIGHER POWER UNITS! The sample ranges from 100's of mW to about 6W! OMFG!!!

Oh BTW this is just the stuff on the first picture- the "rejects"

Tell you what I'll sell you a bag of 25 BETTER assorted laser diodes totally untested for $50.00 a bag delivered. This bin had the 633nm diodes in it, and about 90% of the 100 units sampled worked and lased. The bin has many 808's in it also!

I also have lesser grade ones, about half of these worked. mostly IR with some 650-690nm red ones in it. These are $25.00 each lot of 25.

And i also have "junk diodes" which i'll sell by the ounce... sold for gold reclaim only, no guaraantees of *ANY* working diodes in this lot- Only $10 a bag.
