My guess is they are probably NOT 488nm or not going to be available in any meaningful quantities like the 476nm diodes that styro managed to get a handful of.
Sure, they probably really exist somewhere but what would drive a significant demand for this wavelength other than replacing argon-ions in medical equipment?

Now if these do turn out to be legit, I will be saving up for a build to match my direct green ANSER build...
Provided of course that there is enough supply that you don't have to fight to the death to actually get one...

488nm is one of 3 currently available wavelengths left on my "GET IT" list but I don't want a space heater ion laser to get it.
520 is nice, 473 is great, 488 must be amazing being pretty close to in the middle of those..

Now where are the room temp affordable 600-610nm diodes ;)

I'll have to check if its calibrated to NIST standards. It does say RoHS on the instrument panel though.

The RoHS certification is probably there because it's using lead free solder or other RoHS compliant materials.

Apparently the package was seized by customs. Those morons who sent it marked the package as "lasers"!!!

I really doubt it's being "seized". Maybe checked at most, but there is nothing at all illegal about laser diodes. It's almost like saying a shipment of LEDs are getting destroyed by customs, it's just another electrical component. It's not even being sold as a pointer so this is far from any sort of customs/importation restrictions. Unless there's something else we don't know about in the package it shouldn't be being seized.

I have been through this before quite a few times. Most the time after a long painful process and a nice fee from DHL,Fedex or UPS for their help you can get it released but have had two packages one with blueray diodes and one with N***** diodes that are not listed on their site refused entry as there is no way to prove the manufacturer and specific part numbers. After customs seizes a package to get it released you need to fill out FDA form 2877 that is submitted to the FDA and recorded for all time and then provide specific verifiable manufacture and specific part info as well as the country of manufacture which is not always where they have their headquarters. Since it is an exempt status you have to demonstrate that it applies to that exception which is the part that is at the whim of the sometimes uninformed customs agents. Spent a lot of time this morning talking to the customs liaison, collecting the needed info and filling out forms that have to be submitted to the FDA. I do worry that the part does not show in production on Osram's site and the datasheet is not a final but a preliminary. Anyway sent in the first round of stuff and will hear from them tomorrow if there is any news on clearance or more hoops to jump through. Also when this happens even though the commodity is listed as a zero vat there will be a fee now for customs handling at the very least and they have also in the past charged me under the wrong commodity refusing to change to the right one saying it is correct and there is a import tax on it. Anyway well see what happens.

Whatever Jordan has done in the past has worked so I expect the same tests as always which I doubt means sending more than 1 or 2 out for official measurements. Of course I want one just like most on here but the bottom line is he put up the funds and the rest of us didn't when we could have so it's up to him how he handles selling them. Over the years he has taken a hit on some buys. Sounds like he should be covered on this one but you never know.
I would think that the finder would get first dibs on one. It sure would be great if they turn out to be the real deal as the forum could use a dose of excitement. Certainly an interesting wavelength/color. The way the relative perceived brightness calculator shows it looks a lot like the color of my highest wavelength 07 build. I purchased a couple of adjustable sxd-v3 drivers to push the 5A one harder to see how much more it will shift but I haven't done it yet. The fixed output driver on it is really on there now as the epoxy is rock hard. I don't want to ruin the driver while removing it and the color is so great already I'm having second thoughts about doing it although I really want to. Would like to have a 100 of them to bin but honestly I like that Jordan doesn't bin any of the diodes as I think it would cause him a lot of grief so luck of the draw is the best policy.

So many peaple want this diode becouse the tint is so much nicer than 470nm
Big difference 18nm, I can't wait to see some builds with this ***y wavelength, offcours I would love one right now, I would pay $200 also!

Pman - thanks for your reply. 488 is actually a little more green than it is blue, it is a very different color than the 07E.

Hey Bad, how much of a difference is it between your 4 and 4.5a 07? I haven't built one below 4.5. Above 4.5 the difference is dramatic and it seems easy to discern the color differences. I would expect the 488nm to have a VERY dramatic change from the ones I have. Real life and the way a color chart looks can be quite different especially as the beams have that twinkly look to them depending upon how much debris is in the air. It helps to look at the splash against a white and black background instead of the beam sometimes especially when comparing a large difference in output.

I recently built a NDB7675 and pushed it to 2.7a and it has the same wavelength-brightness and tint as my 4.5a Nubm07e and I'm sure the 488nm is way more of a cyan, Lazerer has some nice vids of 488 lasers on utube!

I say we do a random number generator and I'll trade my roll for Pman's lucky <510nm :) :na:

btw I officially call dibs if you ever do get rid of it.

Well it looks like the diodes have indeed been sent & its only a matter of time before it's in your guys hands. That's good news! :yh:
