I can virtually guarantee that either a low power 405nm will turn up, or possibly even a 532nm.

Well, the label on it shows a violet beam. 473nm, not a chance for 10 bucks lol.

Buy one and find out. Would be interesting and not expensive to do.

From the description nothing can be determined --looks like the guy who wrote it knows nothing about lasers ---what is an output of 5dB/mW?

Maybe the output is really... quiet?

What is suspicious(either then the low price) it the description which states "widely used in presentations". Now, I have never seen a 473 used in a classroom setting & I doubt many teachers would spend $300+ for such a pointer when green/red are cheaper and more abundant.

No go!

I know the specs must be completely off, as they often are on DX.

But the rated current consumption + statement that it will overheat in 30 seconds gives me the impression that it is not some low-power blue diode laser. They also say it doesn't work well when cold hinting at DPSS further.

I guess the power could be 5 mW if blue DPSS at that current consumption, and i suppose the beam is actually blue. If it were a 532 green it would be the least efficient i've ever seen.

For the price i could just order one and see what shows up - it'll probably be something really crappy, but curiosity is getting the better of me ;)

At best i'll the the lucky recipient of something that could be used as a low power host, but i just put the order in. Got it from the dx.com site (470nm Blue Laser Pointer w/ Clip - Black (1 x 18650) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme) since the european one wanted to slap on 9 euros shipping, but the listing is the same.

I wonder what will arrive - might take a while and i'll be kinda happy if its blue and doesnt die within a minute ;p

Pretty much the only case where I would be disappointed is if it was violet, green, or dead. Even if it's 450 you got yourself an extremely cheap low-power blue, which are actually pretty underrated.

We should make a contest out of this. Everyone gets to vote on what the think will actually show up and the closest person wins! Wins what you ask.....bragging rights and everyone reps the hell out of you, lol!

Genius! Chinese roulette! We find the cheapest mass produced laser we can find, and purchase it. The buyer should have an LPM and maybe even a spectro if it's diode, and whoever guesses closest on how long it lasts, it's power, and spectro would get the rep pool! Also, reps by everyone to the buyer.

Lol, good idea. Better yet, find the most outrageous described laser under 10$ and see who comes the closest for actual power. I'm game. I'll buy one and have an LPM.
I've seen some crazy laser sales advertising 100'000 mW before. This could be funny.
Sorry to thread jack OP. Maybe I'll make a Chinese laser roulette game thread.
