You are correct. And because it as far as I've been told is required for the process. A regular KTP doesn't work because it's efficiency is too low from the irregular structure. Periodically poled one can have up to 20x the efficiency.

Lol, didn't you read it? It was already dead and misaligned, that's why I took it apart. I know how to do DPSS. It's not too big of a deal, but there's no easy way to put this back together as it was. I Might rebuild the cavity externally sometime.

LOL I missed that.

LOL I read your initial message and went to google about possibilities of KTP.
Just for the record: KTP can be used with Nd:YAG like these people did

That ppKTP is more efficient I knew. It should be more expensive to make it, and I wondered if ppKTP started to be used in pens too.

As mentioned earlier. Most of it is in the reflective coatings. It may be a normal KTP... But quality and numbers tell me it's likely been p. Poled. Which would help explain the cost. I suppose the only real way to know would be to ask CNI what they use.

Check if it has a periodical pattern on its surfaces.

Interesting note, was looking at these crystals and I just realized something...I don't think this is a YAG. Its not purple....its green. thoughts?

I still have to say this.

It's amazing that a small crystal has the power to change light. I mean, when you come to think of it that's pretty amazing :p

It will always amaze me at least, don't know about you all :)

Can you see any indication of it being 2 crystals?

Also....Green? Wha...Huh? Wouldn't that mean its Nd:YVO4? I thought 589 was Nd:YAG :wtf:

I'm sure its not an yittrium ortho vanadate....but if its a YAG it must have a very low dopant level... Neodymium as a dopant gives off a purple-pink color. its very pretty...but this is more of, for lack of a better way to describe it, more of a flouride pale-green color. it just suddenly hit me today..."Wait a minute....Why is this thing not purple?!"

Yea, because Nd:YVO4 doesn't have the two needed lines for 593.5. Two crystals, a YAG and a vanadate? what the heck is that thing :wtf:

Now this might be an idea. As it is a single crystal i'm positive, but it certainly is puzzling. I'm very curious now. I may have to bust out my book on lasing mediums and the good ol' internet and see what they've been smoking to come up with this! (and this is a 589nm not a 593.5nm laser so it would be 1178)

not sure since i dont know what it is...but it measures pretty typical, 3x3x2mm &
the doubler measures 2x2x10mm

It would be cool if you make a TEC cooled set up, see how much power you can get out of the set


Also, random side note, but it looks like there are 2 drivers- am I correct in assuming one is just the standard driver, while the other is responsible for the pulsing?

If they are what I think they are, I should be able to get over 50mW in theory if I had a strong enough pump, good alignment with low waste, and a little luck. I am considering rebuilding it, but I don't have time lately. If I do I'll be sure to share though.
