Hi,

Why are the 808nm pointers which is rated to maybe 250mW output so much more expensive than a 5 - 10mW green DPSS laser which use a 250mW 808nm pumping diode?

Good question.. probably due to demand. You could buy a cheap greenie, remove the diode, put it in an Aixiz module and have your 808nm pointer..

Because not many people want a 250mW IR pointer :) But they do cost a little more when they get up to 1W as they are cheap and good for burning.

As far as taking one out of a DPSS laser, I always got the impression that it is very hard to get the IR beam to coliminate properly. :)

Most of the time people use IR pointers for burning.. it's not hard to focus the beam..

I want to do the same.
But how can i remove the diode without damage it? And how can i put it in a aixiz housing without damaging it?

I got no vise. Is it possible to leave the diode in the original module and ad a new lens above the original lenses to focus it?

Sorry, but i don't think it work.

Focal lenghts required for collimate a diode are very short, compared to the ones for green units front lenses .....

Can use a tool for take out the diode, or check if, as in some o-like modules, there's a threaded ring that is screwed after the diode, for keep it in place ..... in this case, is easy, just unscrew it and pull out the diode (desolder the driver, before :))
