Can you make an IR pointer out of green?

I have a cheap green pointer i bought off amazon it claimed to be 30mw and it may have been back in the day but now days its not very bright and it takes a couple second to reach full power. is it possible to pull it ir diode out of this and put it in an aixis module? Or what about just pulling the crystal out and focusing it somehow? has anybody ever done this? I really wanna mess with this thing!

Sure you can... IF you can disassemble it.
But be careful... the IR output could be 4-5 times more
powerful than the rated green.
Get IR Laser Safety Goggles before attempting it...

Thats what i was hoping to hear! Should i be able to just remove the crystal and use the stock lens to focus it into a beam or would the lens need to be brought closer to the diode? Or would the aixis module be a better solution for focusing?

I poped the thing open and noticed the plate with the crystal glued to it was cracking off the diode housing. Probably why its been way dimmer. i took that whole thing out and now i have me some IR light! It puts out no heat at all that i can feel and i still have to find a way to focus it but its pretty neat.

You really need to protect yourself from that IR. That could be 200mW of 808nm. This is enough to be an eye hazard. The eye does not perceive 808nm very well, even 100W of 808nm is just a dull red glow. (That can blind you instantly!) Get goggles and view the IR with a vidcam. If the diode is 5.6mm, it can go in an aixiz housing with a glass (for red) lens, or acrylic lens. You could power it with the existing driver, or make a DDL. If the diode is 9mm, consider a meredith module.

The problem is, the lenses in the green were designed for, well, green :p So you'd probably end up with a lot of loss.

You are going to have to rearrange the crystals at least, as the IR focal point is usually a fair bit less than green ...

You wouldn't feel any heat, lasers don't output " heat ". When the light gets absorbed by a surface it creates heat. As it turns out your skin doesn't absorb very much light at 808nm at all so it doesn't create heat, and in fact I couldn't feel 1W of 808 FOCUSED to a spot on my hand at all!

Just remember and get goggles, 808 might look VERY dim, but it is just as dangerous as something which is visible, if not more dangerous because it's so hard to see.

I forgot to mention, i ordered the 220mw IR dilda from olike too along with the goggles.
for $38 its probably not even worth messing with this green pointer i took apart
