In between work im always in need for a little distraction..

This hands down has to be the smallest green laser I have made to date. :D
Until I mount the LD heat is causing the power to drop out.. Im going to
mount this in an aixiz, but the next one will be going into a custom module.
The idea stemmed from shrinking my yellow lasers :shhh:

Very nice work! Although I think a bit of IR might be leaking through :na:

LOL, just a bit

I tried for some macros, but before I can take the pic the
output of 532 drops and cant get a good beam shot.

Im trying to get a nice close pic of the setup in action..

Does your camera have a built in timer option? You could set up the macro shot before hand and set it at two or five seconds if available.

Wow thats really cool!!! Is the glass just mounted on the diode?

That's just neeter than a skeeter's peter! Where did you find it?
If your camera has a video mode use that and capture a pic.

Cant, to get the super close ups requires me holding a lens
infront of my cheapo cybershot.. I can take good pics
but it requires both hands.. Ill just mount it and try again.
The next one is going to be with the can still on the LD
it should be a little more stable and ill get the pics then.

Wow thats really cool!!! Is the glass just mounted on the diode?

Its a bonded crystal set epoxied in place on the tip of the pedestal
of the LD.

Some DPSS systems use optics in between the LD and the crystals
but in cheaper China made green laser, many have their set mounted
directly in front of the die.

This is the same Ide without all the length. Even with the other
lenses I should be able to keep this module under 10mm 12 at most.

The average DPSS 532 modules are 40mm or so.

That's just neeter than a skeeter's peter! Where did you find it?

Not found, made.. hence the DIY in the title :san:

I'm suitably impressed by that little number. Any plans to make me one, or two, or three... :D

No, seriously, I could use one or two of those. What output do you hope to get when stablised in an Aixiz? Actually, inside an Aixiz wouldn't that be a similar size to current modules? How about a custom mount? ;)

Very cool...

This was just an experiment to see if I could do it.
I will be making changes as I go... The aixiz is just so this
one doesnt go to waste.. The next ones will be in a smaller
diameter mount, about half the size of an aixiz.

I only need 5mW after optics and IR filter, so im not aiming
high power. Ill be using these to combine with reds and make
yellow handhelds with the smaller sizes being my preference..

 It's very impressive!
What kind of epoxy do you use to glue the crystals on?

Thermal epoxy (arctic silver).

Even with the fast dry epoxy, its still a bit of a balancing act
to get the alignment right.

So now all you need is an aixis lens nut compatible beam expander and you'll have the tiniest DIY keychain pointer! Neat setup! Thank you for sharing!

very cool  +1

I have a few el cheapo 5cm key-chain reds (prob. <1mW), would love to have a green one :D

Power source would be an issue, perhaps, so the next step up might be this puppy...

A red & green... hey, it's almost that time of the year... :san:

EDIT: Nevermind, it's got to be <=5cm (seeing as somehow there are already <10mW LR44-powered ones on the market...)

My goal is to shrink both the diameter and length of the green module.
The average module is 12mm x 40mm IIRC.

I made another last night with a 9mm 1W 808nm LD and a higher output
crystal set. The 9mm LD kind defeats the purpose of trying to shrink it,
but for some reason now lasers less than 10mW make me anxious :tinfoil:

I think the happy medium will be 500mW 808 5.6mm LD's. 9mm is just too
big. Under-powering a 1W 9mm though will give a long life, so they do have
their advantages..

I was thinking of trying this same arrangement with some 473nm gear I have,
but something tells me I will rip out all of my hair before I hit 5mW...
The crystals I have are not bonded for the 473 and alignment will be
impossible without proper mounts. :banghead:

Here is the 9mm version.. Im getting 20mW of 532 (raw no optics) running the 9mm just
above threshold current. So far im only using less that 1/2 of the space in the aixiz mount :D

If I don't know better, I would say you invented the green laser diode. :D

Such a small laser module would bring alot of new possibilities.
