It won't if you live in the states. (says yours in NJ. And even then there's ways around that. And power is dependent on lots of things.

I know it's highly unlikely, but on the off chance that it is indeed seized, I will lose the best laser I've ever owned. Nevertheless, I'll consider it.

Not unlikely - it won't happen because its not going through customs and not being subjected to a search as it's already considered property of the USA.

Though I certainly can't speak for how the post would treat it, so packaging would be more of the concern frankly.

Though if you want you could add some other lasers to the grating and you could find out if the switch is red or blue shifted.

Thank you Kaiser. If the laser's orangeish color ends up not being 593.5nm, I will probably send it to you for spectro'ing.

I wouldn't be concerned at all of it being seized. If it were mine I would send it off and not think twice. Don't ship it with batteries and add insurance if you want.

You're a very lucky guy, this has got to be one of the most unique portable lasers around!

I've had two different occurrences of cheap DPSS green pointers being multi-line for example.

Do you have a thread about those? I'd like to learn more about them.

Indeed :D

edit: I doubt its 593.5. it could be, but creating that off a yittrium garnet (YAG) is quite difficult...usually they use an orthovanadate (YVO4) or yttrium Perovskite (YAP) to generate 1340/1342nm. That line is pretty weak in the YAG crystal structure, but it depends entirely on how the mirror coatings have turned out if they were fluked and drifted one way or the other due to the way they were produced its not impossible for it to be switching to 593 while cold and the 1342 line is stronger, then as it warms it favors the 1319 line. I tend to find the 589s tend to be hit and miss on the optics, as there are so many lines packed into that tiny area of the spectrum that can be created. one of my 593s has such overly high gain it also still weakly lases (leaks) light in the red and green with it in super tiny amounts.

Problem is, it's not switching to 593.5 while cold, it's switching to it while warm. It's only 589 when it's cold. And if it's not 593.5, what could it be?

607nm :D:D

When will your 593 show up for a comparison?

I hope it's six hundred and seven goddamn nanometers! The color shift is dramatic enough that it just might be. Also, from what Kaiser said, it's sounding a bit more likely. It'll still be wonderful if it's anything but 593.5nm. And even then, it's still 150mW+ of it!

On that 593.5 pen, the guy who sent it to me is starting to remind me of Eitan.

That'd certainly be rather unique! :D

And oh no! Soon buddy? Tomorrow buddy? 5 minutes buddy? Like that? :(

Fortunately he's not doing the '20 minutes buddy' routine. :)
However, the power went out in his home; he got a virus on his computer, causing him to lose access to all of his accounts; and the tracking number he gave me 5 days ago does not work.

Apparently the package containing my pointer was destroyed or confiscated by customs on the way out of Australia. I hope that he will refund me.

Doesn't make a lot of sense--checking packages that leave Australia.

Do you have real world confirmation that is not from not the seller?

His PayPal account has been limited; he sent me a screenshot.

What would that have to do with whether or not he shipped it or how or if customs confiscated and or destroyed it.?

Any proof of it being shipped and/or stopped by Australia customs?

Well, PayPal would not have been alerted if customs did not notice it.
But I have asked him for proof, just now.

Something isn't right, I would guess.

PayPal and customs normally don't communicate at all.
How would customs even know if PayPal was used?

PayPal is not the shipper--Customs would notify the shipping company or the shipping company would know it was held by customs-- but...

Is the guy offering to refund your money? If not and you used PAyPAl can you file a dispute and then claim ? If not can you call credit card and dispute and change. It up to the seller to prove that he shipped to you etc
