1 watt 445 vs. 2 watt(or higher) beam intensity ?

Forgive the noob-ness but I want to ask ... how much more intense/bright would the beam be than 1-watt 445 ? I bought one of Yobresal's 1-watt'ers and it's lovely, I dig it but it is not as 'intense' nor bright as my Rayfoss 532/green laser ...(and I know that's par for the course between the 2 wavelengths)... Just curious what power of 445nm you have to get into in order to compare to that bright green beam (and mind you - I am *not* into burning stuff ... i'm more about the night-time spectacular beaming stuff...)

Thanks...

I'm still learning ...

I believe you have to quadruple (4x) thhe power to double (2x) the visibility of the laser.

2W is alot of power to "play with" if you want more visibility stick with greens or maybe a nice 635nm as they are bright compared to other reds reds go.

I have 600mW, 1W and 2W 445nm. The 2W is brighter than 1W and the beam is very "solid" too, its hard to make an estimate, but I think the brightness is something between 30-50% more than 1W 445nm.

Cheers

hmmm ok ... thanks much for the replies ...

I must set out to find a 2-watt'er now !
Anyone with a used one or who knows of reasonably priced 2-watt 445, please let me know either here or via P.M.

merci beaucoup

There are very few 2W 445nm around an none for sale as far as I know. 2W currently requires either a complex DIY driver, an expensive single driver or multiple micro drivers. Its maxing out the potential of the 445nm diodes as above that they stop lasing so laser life will most likely suffer. As much as a 1W laser is not a toy a 2W laser is even more so not a toy. I would really suggest that the 2W be left to the advanced members who build them. With a 2W you should never be turning it on without laser shades on so you wont see the beam anyways.

If you want to see some cool beams just burn a few incense in a room and turn on a 5mW.

I appreciate the concern but I can handle myself !
And yeah, I guess it's no fun when the goggles render the beam pretty much inert/neutral anyway ... I am into lasers/lasing for the spectacle of the beams and not burning in any case ...
I will just have to get used to the 1-watt Yob. (and I am)
Have been using Rayfoss 200mW. and so i'm used to that level of photonic intensity or whatever you want to say ...

When I say to light some incense I do not mean with the laser. If you light some incense with a lighter and let it burn the small bit of smoke it produces will increase the beam visibility A LOT!

Try using your 200mW green in a small room after a few incense have burned down.

Its a whole new ball game AND its free! or at least damn cheap

Here is an overspec 5mW (30mW) green with a bit of incense smoke

yeah I will definetly try putting some incense smoke into the room ... I have quite a selection of good imported incenses that I rarely burn !!! (usually to just cover the cat-box smell when I haven't changed it yet or the aquarium when it starts to get stinky) but that's even rare ! I'm a clean-freak / good-smells in the house-freak !

yup i talked to DTR, i'm aware of his wares ...
very impressive lasers and meticulous construction/building .
different options host-wise to adjust the price, of course ...
