My main concern is power and quality of the electronics inside the unit. I prefer sleeker hosts like lazerers single color cigar tube design. I'd rather invest the money in the power and as long as the design is functional and simple I'm happy.

Everything I have is powered by protected AW 18650s right now and thus I have lots of those around.

I'd like a top quality focusable lense as itll be mainly for burning.
I'm not overly concerned about run time though around 2-3 minutes on with a minute off is fine. I won't be trying to etch letters with it, just roasting ants etc.

If possible I'd like the host to be a skinnier design. If do to heat issue it has to have a larger head then a gentle taper vs a MACE head with tiny shaft is preferable.

I don't need any modes. Off/WTF is just fine. A key lock or way of keeping the battery in the device without worrying about accidental discharge is preferred but not mandatory.

If you think you can create a quality item within my specs shoot me a pm and we'll hash it out. I'm also interested in any used lasers that may fit my criteria.

You could roast ants with a 1w laser. A lower power would probably be better since you're looking for a smaller host and 2w might build up a lot of heat.

Not really worried about the size of the host. Just don't want a brick or a mallet. The ants know the wattage. They go back and tell their friends. I need ~2.5w.

My 850mW laser is good at burning pests haha are you trying to kill an entire colony lol

No.. I kill a large amount of them and let a few live to tell their buddies. But recently they have been mocking me. So I need something a bit more... extreme... I also happen to like owning things at the higher end of whatever I'm buying.

Guys, he wants a 2.5 watt laser. Who sells them? I recommended he talk to lazeerer or rhd but I'm not sure who else builds that level of laser.

Come to think of it, I think you can get close to that with Survival Lasers.

You know who else you might want to ask is JayRob - he might be able to get you a kit that will hold it and sink it and then see if a builder will put that together for you.

Heck, I really don't know but surely someone here can direct you to a builder that can make that laser. Probably gonna be expensive though.

I roasted an ant with a 300mW red, and i felt really bad after it, Just saying
Also if u want a laser like that contact one of our senior members and discuss your requirements with them.. read through the buy/sell/trade section you'll get an idea what's new!!

EDIT: Ts beat me to it!!
P.S: It would be expensive, be ready for a $500~600 expenditure.. that is offcource if u want 2.5<

I've been looking at the new hosts. A lot of mallets. I was slightly hoping that someone might have a used one too, thus the thread.

if you really want to kill all the ants use boric acid and honey. theyll bring the poisoned honey back to the colony and itll kill off all of the ants.

I'm not using it to kill ants. No ants will be harmed in the making of this film.

Well if u can heatsink a diode at 2.5W without "mallets (like i know what it is)" then i would really be a huge fan of yours and we all are in your debt..

RHD had one in a xxxfire flashlight host that was decent looking. Didn't look like you were going to joust a knight with it or anything.

For one, you are not going to get a duty cycle of 2~3min on and 60s off with the type of host you are describing.. only if you could be more specific and provide a link of a matching sized host that is offcourse in your imaginary mind atm..

C6's are quite small sized and can offer a duty cycle of 60s/60s.. for any further duty "keeping in mind u want to follow the safest possible measures for the diode and driver" you would want a host with a BIGGER heatsink and head compartment to thermally adhere the heatsink aswell .. hope you understand since your much older member than me i can't figure out the extent of advice needed by you!!

Possibly you are right. In my minds eye it all seems so perfect.

NOT OK.

I'd stay away from stainless unless it is really big for a high power build. You want a big copper or aluminum (in my opinion) sink so it is going to be hard to build small. You might want to try and get eghemus (did I spell that right) to build a really nice solid host so the whole host can be the sink and get a good builder to put it together for you...

Just keep an eye on the Buy/Sell/Trade section for Ehgemus builds <--this ones the correct name :p
These builds usually come up with a 2.1~2.3W range most often, and now that we're seeing some promising results from the H1600 diodes from DTR you should definitely contact him for the quote on a 2.5 , he will hook you up with much better input on your build.. also watch some of his tutorials that way you will have some basic idea about the hosts and their sizes..
