WTB: Laser modules (used or i'll pay you $$ to build me one)

So i have a lumia wheel that i'm driving with a cheap, 5mw green pointer with the on switch taped down.

Very ghetto, I know. I'm very new to the laser world, so bare with me.

Apparently what I really need is a laser module - a laser in a little box that I can plug into the wall and run on continuous cycle without overheating.

The equivalent of 15mw green should be powerful enough, as the 5mw green pointer gives me a nice, bright lumia effect (when the batteries are fresh).

I'm interested in green and purple. Yellow/orange would be nice too, but aren't those still really expensive?

I'd be looking to buy a plug & play unit used from someone, or I'd be happy to buy the components and pay someone to build it for me - I have absolutely zero electronics skills and no tools, so helping out a fellow forum member with some cash seems to be the best solution.

I'd like to keep it to under $100 per module.

Let me know!

Try dave (daguin) for a white fusion build, just send him a PM http://laserpointerforums.com/members/daguin/

You could also send flaminpyro a PM about the white fusion build too, I think he is a little backed up right now but one of the best!!

Good luck.

LOL! You can't even LOOK at a White Fusion Kit for $100 ;)

Here's a green one
DealExtreme: $43.50 35~60mW 532nm Green Laser Module (12V)

You can probably find something else in FleaBay

Peace,
dave

**EDIT** a couple more:

I must have misread his post. He mentioned green, purple, yellow/orange (I'm thinking red), so I thought 3 modules ($100/module) $300

Meh -- You may be right.

However, the sentiment is still valid.
There is over $200 just in parts for a complete White Fusion kit.
It is actually closer to $300 if he wants boost/flex drivers and the housing/switches as well.
I highly doubt if anyone is going to put one together for him for less than $100 ;)

Heck! If he wants low loss-lenses, it is more than $300 in parts

Peace,
dave

Thanks for the help, guys. Now I have to do some reading and figure out what a white fusion kit is, LOL.

I'll PM those members....

Here, this seems to be exactly what I need:

Green 523nm GBS-100 mw industrial laser module - eBay (item 230533174797 end time Oct-08-10 22:50:09 PDT)

It's 100% duty cycle and truly plug and play (meaning you simply plug it into the wall and turn it on).

The only difference is this is FAR more powerful than I need - I'm looking for a MAX of 15mw, which I assume means my unit can be smaller and cheaper.

Anyway, I have a feeling I'm not going to find a module like this at such low power, hence why I think I'll need to hire someone to build them for me.

Of course, I'm new to all this, so if anyone has another solution, please enlighten me...

check out my review of ledshoppe.com 's laser projector.
its not an ac plug in unit however it does most of what you need and more.
if that doesnt cut it for you I have some 13mw-32mw modules and heatsinks laying around i could slap into a project box for ya. all id need is a wall worts ac adapter capable of 3v to power the thing.
here's the review link http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/review-ledshoppe-com-laser-spiro-56106.html

Toke, i mentioned in my previous post that Deal Xtreme does not ship lasers higher than 5mw to the US. And a pen laser does not suit my needs since my laser has to be 100% duty cycle and plug into the wall (changing batteries all the time and the associated dim in brightness gets old fast).

So a 30mw pen from Deal Xtreme doesn't really fit the bill in this case!

NK: Sound like you've got what I need! Let's talk via PM and maybe you can build a few units for me, that would be awesome. 13-32mw sound like the perfect range!

Here is a module that will run on a 3V+ wallwart and is adjustable up to measured 30mW. As for heatsinking it, you will need a lumb of metal with a 12mm hole in it. :D

Hmmm I'm still learning about all this and it looks like I may be asking for the wrong thing... I thought a little box with a laser in it that plugs into the wall was called a laser module, but I think I now see that the laser itself is the module and has nothing to do with the host.

What's the proper name for what I'm looking for? This seems to be the best example:

Green 523nm GBS-100 mw industrial laser module - eBay (item 230533174797 end time Oct-08-10 22:50:09 PDT)

Most of the ones I've seen for sale are more powerful than I'd like, usually 50mw and higher. I want them in the 15mw range, since they are being used for show only, not any burning.

I want a "desktop" laser since it's more likely to have a 100% duty cycle and I don't have to change batteries every hour!

Here ya go then:

532nm 15mw TTL power adj. laser with DC power supply - eBay (item 380275148344 end time Oct-09-10 17:22:15 PDT)

Shipping from Texas

Daguin: Thanks so much, that is EXACTLY what I was looking for! I've already bought it.

Now I just need the same thing in a few other colors. Let me ask any of you, I assume I'd need a more powerful red, blue or violet to match the brightness of a 15mw green. What do you think, would 30mw be enough?

I'm guessing a 15mw gold/amber would match the green for brightness...

No such thing as gold/ amber.
theres a dark red or 660nm but you'd need about 100mw to my estimates.
