Alright I know it's wrong to call it a weapon, but sometimes when I'm with friends I'd say 'Don't make me pull out the laser!' x) .. So, just to make fun with friends..

I will explain how lasers work in JUNE, also it's a physics competition not electronics, so it will all be about the main facts, and just a bit for the drivers, batteries, host and lens..

I know how to build one, but haven't done it practically yet..

I said why I want it powerful, I want to do some experiments and see what that laser can do..

And I'm really ashamed to say, but in my country science labs have almost NOTHING useful because all equipment is either old or broken, the government didn't buy anything for the labs since the times of Yugoslavia xD .

Oh, and sorry for my lapses.. I think now I'm clear and I don't look as stupid as you made me.

I agree,

Also, if you decide one of these BOBlasers are what you want to waste your money on, visit one of the forum sponsors (dinodirect), they sell BOBlaserser as well as many other sites for a lot less and they are real companies.

.

thanks for your guys' support, we do try our best to improve ourselves and serve you better:)
we are glad to hear any suggestions :)

I was watching a video review of that rayfoss 1W and apparently it comes with 2 different batteries. the 18650 is low power and the 2 cr123a's are full power. The only problem with that is, you may find that you have it running at full power all the time.

New to blue lasers... totally exciting as my last dabbeling with lasers were all green and red... still have a 130mw Dragon and sold a 300mw Hercules.

I'm now looking for a great blue laser... seems the one for 180.00 bucks is impossible to beat at that price range.

I also looked at OLike and they make a nice unit for waterproof and is rather classy and will fit in a front shirt pocket without attracting attention due to looking like a basic pointer... but even with its glitter not as robust as the 180.00 from yobresal.

I've heard rumours of 2 to even 2.5Watt blues people are putting together?
Slightly longer... maybe yobresal's would do similiar if it had two 18650's in an extension tube!... don't know.

But I said all that to ask.... what else should I be looking at in the way of a pocket type blue laser?

The Rayfoss also look very nice.. don't know what circuit is in it?.. I wonder if it can handle 3 - 18 V?..
If so, seems two CR123A's would do much better than the single 18650?
Anybody know the scoop on that?

Thanks....

You could also try something like this.
He-Ne Laser +power supply - eBay (item 170555915935 end time Nov-21-10 08:07:59 PST)

A small gas laser can give a really nice beam for use in a science lab, at 1-5mW it is also very hard to get hurt with. It you take off the cover you can show off the exited gas between two mirrors.
Then buy a 50mW 532nm and some cheap goggles for playing with.

Yeah, a gas laser, It would definitely bring additional clarity and effect to the presentation... I don't know, I should rearrange my thoughts about this, but after the competition I wont have any more use of it..

Hmm, I'll find some slightly weaker batteries that will suit it and maybe I'll succeed dropping the power.. At last, I may ask Faona to give me an answer, that would be most certain.. :)

Thanks to all you guys who want to help me, I really appreciate it and will follow your advices.. So, some of you think that I'm not capable of handling such power, and it's very true and I support that attitude, because you never know what a n00b can do with it.. It's like riding a bike, you've had your 50cc scooter for 1-2 years and now when you're 17 your mom and dad buy you a 600cc bike.. Now, if you're not aware enough of the power that monster has, you'll get killed on the first ride..
Well, in any case, until I get to a specific level of experience with the laser I'll use weaker batteries, so that will bring the power down. I don't know if that can damage the laser, but that's what I'm up to.
??weaker batteries??
so if you jump from a 50cc bike to a 600cc you would just use low-octane gas??and then you would be safe?? yeah sure!!
T_J has it right--again.
some noobs really scare me!!

As many said before, you really have to forget about the battery issue, cause it isn´t deathsimple.

Well NO dude, I would just drive slow with the normal fuel, and not go for the Max power.. Damn you guys make me wanna attach a darken glass over the beam and show you how it's done. Why don't you just tell me what I need to achieve my goal correctly ..!

Buy a RPL laser from OPTOTRONICS, you would be able to adjust the power in 9 steps.

YouTube - 1W 445nm laser review.
about 30 sec in
I know he says its not metered....but still thats a significant amount

Thanks friend! I've watched this video too but didn't remember that he changed the batteries.. So, I'm not the only fool in the world who wants to lower the output power haha - there is one more on YouTube lol! Thanks again, I just can't explain some things to the PROs hahah..

its not so much that "your not capable" its more of you need to learn more, and if you want to do this right, you will take it slow and learn all you can. you only get 1 set of eyes so dont take any chances

??? Someone - Death Simple --- NEEDS a high power laser right away??? WTF? Parents buy powerful toys ??????
Sorry -- I don't get this thread. Who NEEDS a high power laser -- for what?

HMike

Attempting to lower power by using low charge cells will cause driver overheat conditions on some modules. READ
