is this your first laser? If so, maybe power should not be what you're after. I have had a wide range of 5-250mw lasers over the past couple years, and have just a couple days ago put together my first 1W blue. 1W is a dangerous amount of power. Even the slightest reflection can do permanent eye damage. I know I am certainly afraid of mine.

Totally agree. There is no room for error. Its so bright its not safe in the house. You will have to have 'good' goggles, and make sure there are no other people, or animals in the house. Even if you are sure there are no reflections, you will see blue spots in your eyes from the glow of the beam without goggles. Its nothing to fool around with.

Get your self a 50mW green laser. Its cheap, bright, and a good starting laser. You should still get goggles either way.

Look guys, I got into this laser world for more than a month so far and I got pretty much informed about the main facts.. I'd also rather take the most powerful red laser (from a good seller, and with good specs) I can find for these 300$, than for the 1W Blue of Rayfoss, mostly because I am aware of the terrifying amount of radiation they carry in the beam. I would better burn myself with a red laser than expose myself to radiation. Maybe until I order this 1W laser I will find a good red one, whatever.. Thanks a lot for your advices and suggestions, but I'm aiming to go for the high power, one of my friends has some kind of a bright green laser and it's cool, but they are too expensive and can't burn anything.. About the danger, I've got lots of experience with it, mostly with fuel, explosions, gas, tools etc.. and also.. I'll take 3 pairs of high quality 'orange' glasses, for my mom and dad to see what I've bought xD

DeathSimpl,
Be careful of scammers. It happened to me soon after joining.
If a seller has a low post count and/or Reps, I suggest using a trusted middle man.
Just a heads up for ya:)
I agree,
DeathSimpl, before buying a laser from Vega, make sure he's ok with using a trusted forum member as the middleman to test the laser before he gets the cash.

There have been instances in the past where a forum member decides they will get into the laser business, get peoples money and then disappear. After time it's discovered they were just kids and scammed everyone. This has happened more than once, don't let it happen to you.

The member Vega was also banned once already when he created a 2nd account and when he promoted his "BOBlaser" had his alter-ego/ duplicate account agree with himself saying the BOBlaser was great.
In actuality "BOBlasers" suck, it's that simple. They are cheaply built and under-powered.
Also, if you decide one of these BOBlasers are what you want to waste your money on, visit one of the forum sponsors (dinodirect), they sell BOBlaserser as well as many other sites for a lot less and they are real companies.

Vega, if you really want to get in the business, buy a meter and some decent lasers to sell. Offer to use a middleman to hold the funds and test the laser before the transaction is completed and maybe send a couple samples to respected forum members to test/review and build a good reputation for yourself 1st.

Last thing, distance yourself from BOBlasers and find a decent supplier or you won't be in business for long as they are truly the bottom of the barrel as far as performance and reliability, you'll lose your butt in returns and return shipping costs in no time flat as most of the forum members here except for the noobs can test a laser and know crap when they see / test it.

I was always brought up to listen to people who knew what they were talking about. Some people think they know it all, and actually have no clue. As in real life, just when you think you know everything, you know nothing at all. If you dont have the ability to humble yourself, ignorance will plague your every step.

Thanks to all you guys who want to help me, I really appreciate it and will follow your advices.. So, some of you think that I'm not capable of handling such power, and it's very true and I support that attitude, because you never know what a n00b can do with it.. It's like riding a bike, you've had your 50cc scooter for 1-2 years and now when you're 17 your mom and dad buy you a 600cc bike.. Now, if you're not aware enough of the power that monster has, you'll get killed on the first ride..
Well, in any case, until I get to a specific level of experience with the laser I'll use weaker batteries, so that will bring the power down. I don't know if that can damage the laser, but that's what I'm up to.

its not so much that "your not capable" its more of you need to learn more, and if you want to do this right, you will take it slow and learn all you can. you only get 1 set of eyes so dont take any chances

How do you plan to go about making your batteries weaker? And how do you even know how weak the batteries need to be? If your batteries are so low that it's affecting the output of the laser, then you are almost done using it anyway, it will be completely off very soon.

What exactly are you gonna do with that laser? If you think you want 1W in your first laser, then you definitely don't need one. What you need is a low powered fun laser, like a 50mW green, it can be had cheap $20-40.

Well I'll find a way to bring the output down, how can the Spider III run on low power without making any damage???.. The batteries should be just slightly weaker (I don't know exactly) to lower the power few times, I don't know if that's wrong for the laser tho.

What I Need iT for?? I'm been asked to answer this question very often haha.. I'm planing to go on a physics competition this year and explain the way lasers work and the light beam behavior.. Why I need that much power? Mainly for home experiments, pointing distant areas in daylight, and also this is a powerful weapon, and it's legal..

And yeah, I should make a better research about how to control the output power

It is kind of amazing to see so much fail in one post.

Starting to think we have a troll in the house.
Looks like it.
What's wrong with my post PROs..?

You want to explain to others how lasers work?
Without knowing how to build one?

You need to buy a powerful on to do so?
Does that mean that you have been inside a school/college science lab without noticing the lasers kept for educational purposes?

A laser as a powerful legal weapon?

And the most damming, to keep going in your misconceptions in spite of having it pointed out to you repeatedly. :yabbmad:
