Hello,

Im new here. I would like to purchase a blu ray burning laser. I need it to be capable of burning through a piece of nylon kite string. Its for a physics project im completing at Loyola University in Chicago.

I have found a few on different over seas based companies website, but since most of my research directed me back here, I figured someone in the community may have one available for sale.

Thank you

Welcome!
You won't have a problem finding a 405nm that burns. Or a 445nm.
Members here have lasers for sale even though they may not have active threads on them.
Tell everyone how much you want to spend, and maybe what you want the host to look like.
Then you should start getting some offers.
Keep browsing the B/S/T section and check out the 405nm and 445nm sections. There's some good reading.

enjoy your stay ,)

well, the laser has to function for its purpose.
essentially i will need it to be able to cut through string very similar to what i have posted below. For observation purposes i would prefer what ever wavelength is less visible to the human eye.

I would like to spend roughly $100-150

I am relatively familiar with lasers, I own a 5, 20, 30, and 50 mw 532nM laser
as well as several 405 nm laser pointers that are 5mW

The first and foremost requirement is that the laser burns through the string as quickly as possible, and is relatively portable. actually, a portable hand held battery powered unit would be preferable.

I wouldnt mind using that 1W S3 Spyder Arctic from wicked lasers if it would due the job.

I can tell you from personal experience that high powered (like half watt) 405nm dots are really hard on the eyes, even though they are dimmer. A 445nm 1 watt laser will definitely give you the most bang for your buck. Read around and you'll find that Wicked Lasers is delaying/scamming/procrastinating on those Arctic orders. They basically took everyone's money and used that money to slowly develop the lasers that they are selling...

If I were you, I would talk to one of the builders around here and have them build you one. Talk to members Daguin, Yobresal, and IgorT. If you want to build your own, I recommend you look here. I've heard that member Ehgemus makes custom hosts for very competitive prices.

Remember to wear safety glasses when you're pointing around anything somewhat reflective or somewhat close (like indoors). When you're burning things, light scatters all around like crazy, so it's absolutely necessary to wear them. You can get really really cheap ones that aren't so protective here, you can get really protective safety glasses that are still relatively cheap but with heavy shipping here, and you might be able to get in on a group buy for top of the line glasses at INCREDIBLE discounts here. If you have the cash, I recommend you see if you can get in on the group buy right away, because it's ending soon.

I have a similar pen that I built that I am looking for 55-60 shipped for. I will warranty it for 2 years as well. Its focusable so it can light matches and other stuff. I built it to sell it, so it actually does only have 1-2 minutes of testing "on" time. If anyone else says they only used it for 2-3 times they are most likely lying.

Make me an offer!

I am a very honest person, I take great offense for you accusing me of lying

So you buy a laser, wait a month for it to come and use it for three minutes? I'm sorry, but I don't buy that.

Nanometer, I also have all the parts necessary to build one if you would like to build it yourself.

uh yeah... I'm not a huge fan of 405nm at all, i bought just to try out, was never eager for it to arrive, and really 2 of those 3 times that I used the laser were on video on youtube, This laser isn't the only laser that I've rarely ever used, I have others too that I've just stored away into my drawer.

Wait! Are you from Wickedlasers that you always post this Sonar 405nm?

@Nanometer
I would go with Pontiacg5´s PHR pen, he has good skills and has a lot of selling experience

If you want a little more burning power, I'd like to point you here:

200mW blu-ray torch/adjustable/focusable [OL-405-200-T] - $105.99 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

It's from O-Like, and they're extremely well known here for their red version of the same New Style Dilda laser.

It's 200mW, and will have more than enough burning power. It will also burn better than any 100mW pen. It's got enough power to light a match underwater (check out some of the videos of 200mW Blu-Ray lasers on YouTube), and can also light steel wool.

If you want to pay a little extra and get that, you won't be disappointed.

Also, a pair of goggles would be very important. These should be fine for your needs:

405nm,473nm,532nm laser safety goggles [OLGLG532] - $19.99 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

Did anyone else catch that? Light a match under water?
