Remember, this is a moving target. There will be "work" going on for higher and higher outputs until the next generation of storage comes along.

The 6X was "cutting edge" until the 8X came along. The 12X is here. They're working on the 20X. If you wait until the highest output is attained, you will still be behind the curve because the next generation of technology will be out then.

One article that has been posted herein has one executive stating that he sees the NEED for a 900mW violet diode in the future!

One of the reasons why a 500mW diode would be so exciting is that 500mW would be the "rated" output. WE regularly FAR exceed the rated output. I can guarantee you that the 12X is NOT rated for 500mW, but it looks like we will be getting that from them.

How would you like a 900mW rated diode driven to 150% of the rated output :eg:

The shear though is inconceivable, I love high power, but I really do wonder if having more than 1 watt in a portable laser is a good idea. There is always someone not responsible enough to handle it and could ruin it for the rest of us.

Why? 500mW of violet will burn the wall on the other side of the room already.
