Just wondering..... in a trade situation, as opposed to a buy or sell where there is some security offered by Paypal, who sends their item first? What is the standard practice in these cases?

There is no way to make a "rule" for this. BOTH of you are sending something. How can you decide who is first? If you do not trust each other, use a middleman. Both of you ship your stuff to the middleman and he reships when you are both satisfied.
Several veterans here offer middleman service for just the cost of shipping

Having done a ton of trading over the years, I learned the hard way.
I have a stern policy - when I get mine, you get yours, or the deals off.
A few times I shipped first, and a few times I got burned.
Turned me cynical real fast.
That's just my take on it, however the middleman service sounds incredibly cool, and with a vet who has a reputation quite safe.

I'm usually not selling, but when buying, I always pay first. So far I've avoided the few bogus sellers I've met, and about 99% went perfect.

Although I am a very trust worthy person I wouldnt trust someone like me with less than 200 posts and only 3 rep. So far I have bought from yobresal and without thinking I sent the money and a note of what I wanted after a few PMs. If they are vets or have sold stuff before with great rep then I would send money first. This is just from my one experience though. I mean yobresal even tought me how to set up a paypal and send him the money. lol

The middleman system is a very well established system here. I would recommend that you only use a few of the veterans for it, but it works very well.
