What can I get?

I have a bit of money to spend, around £8 sitting in my paypal on its own. Looking around I could actually build a little red pointer for that...

So whats the highest power diode I could get for this, remembering I have to buy a driver as well (pre assembled) and will need some optics. What do you recommend?

thats around 16$ isn't it?? i dont think you could buy a red diode for that much.
maybe a cheap green pointer from DX

I actually now have £10 in there so thats $19. I heard people had bad experiences with Deal Extreme...

All good suggestions everyone, although that 70mW red module is of no real use to me I already have a 100mW red module in my scanner... although the heatsink from it would be very useful...

I did look on stonetek but as said above, I need a driver as well.

The driver shouldn't be too expensive. You really only need a resistor, pot and capacitor for a cheapo driver.

yep. But any way you put it you can make a red laser for cheap, but not less than 20$ so far.

True but I only have really basic electronics skills, these driver kits people sell here would take me hours to figure out which is why a ready made one which only cost $3 or so anyway would be ideal.
