Check out stevetexas' post regarding the IR filter in the toothpaste cap idea he came up with - he posts a link to where he bought the inexpensive filters...
The only one I tried was made of glass, and I had no way to get it off of there !
I have heard they are on most webcams - Just have not tried that is all. Just PAY THE $12 man !!!
I dunno what size/quality you need, but if you want a quality 1cm square from Coherent, send me a PM. (its gunna cost a little more than that other filter, but it'll be a hell of a lot cheaper than from coherent)
It sux that the IRC30's have a much better curve and better transmittance but are only available as reflective filters. I would grab one, but I have no need for a reflective one.
just rip one out of a webcam! i made a vid showing the effect of a ir filter out of a webcam here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=neIMzd_K90E it's using the pump diode out of a DX 20, so there is alot of ir, as you can see in the first part. they are about 1cm by 1cm in this camera, but it can go up or down.
I've got a couple of these IR filters from webcams. I know I have one right in front of me now... but I don't know where the other one hopped off to.. :-? This one is a tiny thing about .5cm square. It's quite thick and has incredible VLT though. It's almost perfectly transparent
