I'm soon going to be attempting to build my first lasers, and I want to try to build myself a bright red pointer. I'm not trying to build a burning death ray, just a 50-60mw bright red pointer in the 660-670 range so that the color will be noticably different from the 635 that will be coming after it once I'm 100% confident on what I'm doing.

Anyone have any suggestions? I keep seeing 662nm pop up for some of these burners, but I don't recall which ones. I figure I could use whatever that was for my application.

I'm about to move so it'll be a couple of weeks before I'm ready to buy, but I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction! :)

You could run a diode from stoneetek at a low current, but that would make the wavelength closer to 655nm. To be honest you won't notice much difference between 650nm and 670nm because they are both solid red, I don't even notice much of a difference between 650nm and 780nm! :p

The Sony SLD1239JL-54 diodes are supposed to be 658nm... I guess my eyes are shot, because (not lasers !) I don;t see much difference between those, and the "true" 650's other than brightness of the higher power....anyone wanna donate a spectrometer to me ? I'd use it and everything ! :D

Pfft. That dude has one item for sale, no feedback, no nothin'. Wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.
