You get a round dot with a green because the diode has really nothing to do with the beam you get out. The diode just provides energy for the Nd:YVO4 to start lasing (you could also use a flash lamp, arc lamp, etc... it just needs high density light energy around 808nm). From there, the Nd:YVO4 is creating it's own beam, completely separate from the 808 pump light. They generally lase tem00, because that's what the cavity most easily supports, which is why you get a nice round beam 
There is much more science behind it to explain exactly WHY the crystal usually wants to lase tem00, but it goes up and beyond my level of knowledge.

I think you are right. It is the Nd:YVO4 causing to form a round beam.

I told Igor way back when, Igor asked me to tell you to mail him - which I did (PM Jun 5th) to which you responded (PM Jun 11th) that you would email him at this gmail address... .
So what happened then?

I replied to the last e-mail received (5th June).
Sent him another one yesterday (to his g-mail, again) to no avail.
I'm guessing he hasn't received them but can't understand why not. All other e-mails i've sent to others are fine and I've not had any error messages about Igor's.

Having just checked my Incredimail's properties pages, the last three e-mails I sent (3rd.June, 11th.June and 24th.June), have all been successfully delivered, according to the programme.:anyone:

Not only has Igor failed to correspond (not only with myself, CuriouslyCoherent has also been ignored) but he has started posting essays in the B/S/T thread without any sort of reference to those of us still waiting for lasers paid for in good faith.
My interest and enthusiasm in the previously exciting world of lasers has taken a severe battering. Lately, whilst visiting this forum, I can't bear to do anything other than check this thread, firstly, and then that B.ullS.hiT. other one !
I'm sorry for sounding narky, I'm just very disappointed.

Well, there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel !
After fixing me e-mail (although only not receiving for a week) I have been speaking with Igor.
He'd sent my lasers but they had some troubles with labels falling-off (due to water) and had to wait a month before searching was possible . . .
. . . he is re-posting them today, thankfully.
