Nope. Not leaving the hobby :)

I was never satisfied with my DIY projector, the scan speed was great, but the rest of it sucked... To run both PJ's I would have to set the scan speed around 10K anyways since my REKE is rated for 12kpps, so the scan speed didn't matter. I would also never be able to afford a red laser to go in it (red is my favourite for PJ's), and the G/B balance was way off. The 350mW green in my projector was just as good as the low power green the REKE because of the beam was much smaller so the power density was the same. The blue was better, but it's wasn't a huge difference unless they were side by side.

The 300$ REKE out performed my 900$ DIY projector by a sizeable margin, and I was really disappointed by that. I thought for sure having almost 8x the power of the green and 10x the power of the blue would make it so much more breath-taking than the REKE, but I was wrong.

I calculated it and if I sold both my REKE and all the parts from my DIY PJ and added a little bit I made from my summer job that I could have enough to buy two pre-built 1W 20kpps RGB projectors (I'm buying two so I get a discount and only have to pay for shipping once, so it ends up being cheaper than building them myself).

Somewhere down the line (probably 6-7 years) I'll have the money to build a really nice DIY projector if I'm still into lasers then. I've got tuition to pay for, and I'm not going to be able to spend anything on hobbies for the next few years of my life.

So that's all, not leaving the hobby. Just upgrading my equipment while I still can.

Re: FS: Reke-500RGB

congrats on the sale
I am working on a pair of stands to elevate my rekes
to show the range of angles I can get I took it outside and did a few quick shots into the huge oak tree in my front yard- the 'fuzziness' is do to the long exposure and the leaves of the tree- there are a few of the built -in patterns that come with all reke500rgbs. btw to get the sound reactive to work OK you need to have volumne that is high and near the PJ- Or better still remove the crap mic and replace with aux sound in plugs.
btw'
replace the S with a 5 and all know that I mean '5Paghetti' I have two licenses But when you have QS-- :wtf:whats the point?

Those are some nice stands! Where did you get them?

The mic on my REKE is actually pretty good, It can pick up the music across the room.

Re: FS: Reke-500RGB

here

DIY

I made the top part myself from plate and bar & 90 angle Aluminum-
I got the speaker tripods off Eekbay-
they will hold a 100lb speaker.
There is about 35$ worth of 'cut to size' Al. in each one.
I have just painted the one today that is ready to use with flat black- I may be selling these as pairs- complete and painted for $300 a pair(free shipping)
less if you want to DIY.
I will just cut and drill the four holes for the top part of the tripods for $200 hardware included.

you drill the other 17 holes.
then finish as you like.
or have the parts anodized.

**********

when the tripod is at its lowest the PJ is about 4 foot from the ground.
Extended its about 6 foot.
I found some nice tubes(old pole lamp) that are the same size so by drilling more holes for pins its possible to go much higher.
Using the mounting bracket on the reke I can get a large range up and down.
I can get the parts anodized if desired.
I made these to hold PJ slightly bigger than the reke500 or any smaller PJs.
For even larger PJs I can do but need your specs to quote costs.
