Or, even better (for time being only) get some phazors or open cans, they are in plentiful supply.

hey yobresal is the laser you sent me good or bad diode cause you said you tested it >150mw non-rechargable bats >230 with rechargeable bats

hasn't arrived yet

What do you mean by phazor? I've seen someone mention open can before but I don't know what the difference between open can and closed can is? Where can I buy a replacement diode?

Re: >150mW mini red lasers for $63

The open canned diodes are those generally found in burners with write speeds 22x. They are being offered by daedal in 1 of his group buys. They can operate safely at much higher currents and have the potential for much higher output. I will probably pick a few up.
-Cybob, your laser has an added resistor and with the regular battery it is not likely going to likely die. Using the rechargeable battery I sent you will give you a higher chance of killing it.

FWIW, the best luck I have had so far is from an LG 20x Litescribe burner. Easy to harvest open can and seems to take some real abuse. You can pick up the drives for $40 usually at Fry's. I haven't tried one of those $24 from newegg although I will prolly order one soon.

yobrasel, i didn't check how much you refunded me but I feel bad if you refunded all my money, you should at least have kept shipping costs if you really wanted to refund my money. This community is great and I hope to give back and help people out. If you have anything else for sale let me know, you're the BEST SELLER I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH OR SEEN!!!! I want to buy something or more things from you so you can make some money off me. Any BluRay diodes or anything else for sale?

I gave you a full refund. I appreciate your understanding and apologize for the crappy lasers. I will not likely be building anymore lasers other than for myself. If anyone needs instructions or help with building I am more than happy to assist.

Well I'll probably be buying a Phazor LD and a bluray to replace those, i think i have to modify the circuit for bluray. If you want a phazor or bluray diode from DDL let me know, it's on me!

@yobresal, did you use the driver in the Elly or a different one. The Elly I bought from DX only put out 1.5v to the LED.

@goldfingerfif, do you have a 5mW or 2mW RED to compare the beam shot with one of the DIY Red? Just want to be sure it's not under power.

Yes, I have an aixiz, I'll take a pic later when I get home from work....I can tell you that with a 5mw red I can see the dot in the dark about 2 blocks away, with the DIY I can BARELY see it @ 5ft on a dimly lit wall at my house. I'll take pics for comparison though.

Re: >150mW mini red lasers for $63

Well, I came to this thread to report that my 10ohm resistored replacement is still going strong, and it died while I was writing this..lol. It lasted quite a while, but I guess the bunkness of these misrepresented diodes that were being sold prevailed in the end. Im wondering if this model light can be heatsinked well enough for a phazor or other higher output diodes.

Here are beam comparison shots as promised.

Re: >150mW mini red lasers for $63

sorry goldfingerfif, the Laser diodes turned into LED.
if you have a driver you may try running at 100mA, if the diode still works it should be 10x brighter than the 5mW.

Re: >150mW mini red lasers for $63

how can i tell if my diode is good or bad?

Yobresal can you determine roughly how long the diode will last running on nonrechargeables

me friend is giving it to me tomorrow.

Re: >150mW mini red lasers for $63

Give yobresal a break, he can't tell you wether it's a good or bad diode, this isn't his fault, he didn't know the diodes were a bad batch, all you can do is keep using the laser until it dies. :'(
