Going to go with the XL, only because I don't feel like buying batteries when I already have 8 18650s :)

Re: Presale - The Cypreus II - 1x18650/2x18350 - A Copper Laser host by Sinner

Just got the first one of these to be made in today. Some notes:

1. The tailcap is slightly difficult to unscrew, due to the way it sits inside the battery tube. You must use a fingernail or something on the notches to unscrew it.

2. You will need a contact board of some sort for this build. Anybody know where to get any?

3. The host has great dimensions and has a wonderful heft to it.

4. The edges seem a little roughed up. There are a number of nicks and machining marks. I may see about getting it polished. I know copper is hard to work with though.

All in all I really like it. There are a couple of difficult things with it but it is an all copper host(except the tailcap) and it is hard to dislike. Makes my aluminum hosts feel like toys. Still not sure what to build into it. Maybe a high powered Mitsubishi diode. I have been wanting a 1W 638nm laser anyway.

Come now, these hosts are destined for the new high powered 445's and 520's.

Three reasons I won't be doing that:

1. 800 Dollars.
2. The Runtimes on the new 445's and 520's would be very, VERY short in my single 18650 original Cypreus II Host.
3. Red is going to look awesome with the copper.

Response

1) Hopefully within 2 years or sooner it will be under $200, just gotta be a little patient.
2) Power is much more impressive when it's in a smaller package, IMO... worth it.
3) It probably will.

The more I pick this host up, the more I like it. It is almost exactly what I was imagining when I asked Sinner to make me an elegant copper host. The heft of it is perfect. I love the feel of it in my hand.

You can definitely put me down for one for the EDC Mini's. I may also pick up another standard but that is yet to be determined.

For anyone looking for a review of this host, I should have the first one built around monday. Just ordered the diode(s) today. Got a Mitsu 1.2A and a 9mm 2.4A, just got to decide which goes in this host and which waits for a different host.

Re: Presale - The Cypreus II - 1x18650/2x18350 - A Copper Laser host by Sinner

Hello!
I'm interested to the XL host, but first I have for You some important questions:

- The XL version can handle without any issue the new 445 diode at about
6W output or the new 520 at 1.4W?
My question is not only for the duty cycle (2 mins could be enough for me), but also
for the battery runtime. I will use the 3400 mAh Panasonic hi-drain not
protected cells.

- The copper oxidizes easily: it is possible to spray a clear coat to preserve
the luster, or I need to polish it every time that the host oxidize?

- Modifying the aperture, it is possible to adapt a Jetlaser beam expander?
I experienced with my Frankenstein host that 405-G1 lens works well
with a beam expander, if the beam diameter input is tiny enough to fit
exactly into the first small lens. I need a thread that can move the
entire expander group forward or backward, so, when the correct position
is found, the expander will be ready to be used.

:thanks:

Richard.

Awesome ideas guys, and thanks wannaburnstuff for putting a good word on it your suggestions were very helpful and I have worked on a few things with some ideas that can drastically improve the final design, I'll add your edc too.

The use Brass tailcap and Red-brass battery contacts is a key decision, made to enhance the durability of moving tailcap components, the brass threads never deteriorate the reason why high end mechanical equipment, like moving parts i.e: shafts and gears are made with brass in heavy duty machinery because unlike other alloys it will not lose it's shape after years of continuous use.

@MmKy: The XL version will handle 3min+ with either of those diodes, However The copper will oxidize overtime, I am not offering any coatings for this host.
If you can send me the thread size (Diameter, Pitch size) I will look into the possibility of making such a contraption for custom attachment. However this should take some additional time and I can only offer this as a separate/custom service.

My review thread is up HERE. Build portion to be completed when my diodes arrive from DTR.

Be warned lots of pics. And more to come.

What is the diameter of the location for the contact board in the driver pill?

16.8mm according to my digital calipers.
