Hey all,
I had an idea and I thought I would throw it out there.

I'm going to offer laser building services.

HOW IT WORKS:

You buy all the components and everything you need, including host, driver, diode, etc etc and send it to me. I will construct the entire laser.

You get the laser back in the mail completed and with a verified power output.

The price will be $30... (I'll take trades too!)

Why risk your diodes and other expensive parts when you can have an experienced builder assemble them for you?

The turnaround time will most likely only be a day or two from the time I get the parts to the time that it is back in the mail.

Now I know that I don't 'sell' many lasers on here, but I have done work for many of the members here and I'm sure they can attest to my quality of work.

I will also be offering repair services for diode and DPSS lasers. The price on this would be on a per case basis.

Post here or PM me if you're interested or have any questions

EDIT: I would also like to add that if you happen to break the window in your diode, I also offer a de-canning service. I have the special tool from thorlabs ($135!!!) to remove the cans from laser diodes SAFELY and without incident.

I'm interested Gus.

Seems like a very good price for your service, and "trades" are always a good thing.   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Nice idea GooeyGus. This is good service for the community.

For the newer members here GooeyGus has been around for along time and has built quite a few lasers. He has done quite a bit of "experimental" work as well. I would trust his work without reservation.

Peace,
dave

Do you offer a guarantee for an assembled laser? (EX: Someone sends a 6X diode and all the necessary parts, something goes wrong in the assembly and the diode is fried, what happens next?)

I'm going to verify that the diode is working before I assemble anything. If it's not working when I get it, well then it's a faulty part (this is why I would prefer for diodes to still be in the sled. This protects them from ESD and usually guarantees a good diode). If it works fine when I get it but for some reason dies in the middle of assembly, I will replace the diode.

I'm just wondering... If you can modify my pulsar with an open can, the best lens (other then Meredith) and a flexdrive! How much will that cost?

Just thought that I would give my thread a bump and let everyone know that the *first* full laser build has been completed since I started this little business. I've done a few other repairs and half-builds, but last night was the first full laser built from parts.

It's a 210mW MXDL style laser with the jayrob heatsink. It's powered by the rkcstr driver @ 300mA and has a great feel in the hand. It was built for a member of our community, but I didn't ask his permission so I wont say who it is :p Here are some pictures

So if you've rounded up all your parts to build your laser but you're just not confident in building it yourself, let an experienced builder do it for you! The builds are guaranteed, and the price is right. Send me a PM if you're interested

Looks good.  I like the feel of that host in my hand.  That is going to make one fine burner.  [smiley=evil.gif]

I'm going to verify that the diode is working before I assemble anything. If it's not working when I get it, well then it's a faulty part [highlight](this is why I would prefer for diodes to still be in the sled.[/highlight] This protects them from ESD and usually guarantees a good diode). IMO, this is the most difficult part, extracting the diode. I believe you should make it a must that the LD stays in the sled and is part of the $30 labor fee, because anybody who could successfully extract a LD from a sled should be able to successfully assemble a laser. I know other skills are involved like soldering and such, but I believe it should be all or nothing, to keep things simple. Unless of coarse someone purchases a LD alone and not in a sled to begin with.

I too vouch for you Gus, you are a GOD amongst the LASER People. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I might ask you to build my 6x kryton - I am happy to kill $15 diodes, but i can't afford to mess this one up.
I'll pm you soon
