I have a ruby laser rod and I'm trying to find out what it's worth and if there are any potential buyers. The ruby rod is almost 3in. long (240.38mm) and it's in perfect condition. On the container it says E8. I may have some shorter ones too. I'm thinking about ebaying it.

Given that you have 2 posts and both of them are about selling this rod, I suggest that you use a middle man for this deal. Second, pics are a MUST.

I'm not a middle man. I found it among the various items my father has accumulated from working in laboratories for forty years, he told me I could sell it to pay some bills. I believe he got it from Cronar laboratories when they shut down in the 80's. I was trying to post pics, but I can't figure out how to re-size the image to 800x600.

No, YOU use a middle man. Meaning you send them to a well respected member of the forums and he/she will inspect everything, then he/she will send the rod(s) to a buyer, and the buyer sends money to you. You pay for shipping both to the middle man, and the buyer.

For resizing, upload the pictures to photobucket, and use their resize tool.

Yeah, I'm just going to send it in the mail to someone I don't know.

I did it with a laser that has $140 of parts in it. Sent it to Wolfman to get it metered and evaluated so that everything checked out. Same applies to the mindset of the people buying these rods. They don't want to send a few hundred to someone they don't know. Going this route, this will not sale, I guarantee you that. People here do it all the time, PM Dave [Daguin] about it. I'm sure he'd be willing to help.

Perhaps put it up on ebay, then post the link here.. Good laser parts sell
quickly, and you wont have a problem uploading the pics.

Id be interested to see this and whatever else you have :san:

I also have Indium oxide, pure Gallium, and an Ingot of single crystal silicon if any of that interests you.

It's about 100 grams worth. Each nugget is individually packaged in a jar. It's Semi conductor grade, and it has paperwork with it from the laboratory where it was made. I believe it's worth about $300.
