Re: Rick Trent laser kits

no reason just was the same power as the others. maybe he did just have a bad lens from someone else??? i plan on doing another test tommorow but with my m140 and see if there is any difference.

Could be, or it could be that there was something on the lens. A little smoke from burning stuff can get on the lens and drop the output significantly.

Re: Rick Trent laser kits

not from my test that i ran. i did everything in my power to make the test as fair as possible would you guys say. I'll do another tomorrow, but maybe IE with get some different results.

Re: Rick Trent laser kits

The only alteration to your test that I would suggest is to allow the laser to cool completely between measurements.

I know that you will have to start and stop the tape for that, but it will eliminate the diode heating up as a confounding variable

I'm not saying it is effecting the measurements.
I'm just suggesting a possible confounding variable that can be controlled for

Peace,

Re: Rick Trent laser kits

That's was one thing that I didn't quite do. The diode was in a massive heat sink so I didn't quite think about it. It did have a bit of time to cool down as I changed the battery's and the lens out. Any ideas of other things that I might do to improve accuracy? Also on further inspection after the test i did notice the lens had a smudge on it, so I've cleaned it and will retest. Like I said it went straight from the package to doing the test.

Re: Rick Trent laser kits

I expect the lens monday... will post results monday night. The lasers I have to test with are all m140, and test will be against g1 lens only. I don't really see the point testing vs g2 but if anyone wants I'll check that too. Just kind of a PITA to get it out of the laser where I have it now:p

Edit: Based on the video, if there is a difference, it's really negligible, and given then short run times, I really can't see that being an issue. I'll run it in reverse order, t1 first, g1 second. On g1 I'm getting 2.5-2.6W now.

When I retest tomorrow I will us my m140 and test the T1 first then so on.

Re: Rick Trent laser kits

No surprise really...
In Ricks G1 vs T1 vid he got 3.1W and 3.5W

If that was accurate, that would mean the G1 was less than 90% efficient
The datasheet for a G1 puts it at Greater than 95% efficient

Re: Rick Trent laser kits

So, the higher power is from being driven higher, with an extremely efficient diode.

Re: Rick Trent laser kits

I'm assuming its got to be something like that. Remembered I'm hitting almost 3W at only 2A. If I bumped up the power I think this diode should no problem going over the 3W mark.

Ditto, I recently got this diode:

I'm sure it could easily handle more current, but after having another diode degrade on me I wonder what the life would be like at 2.5A/2.6A.

Re: Rick Trent laser kits

Well at 2A I'm just about at the same make as where your graph shows maybe a little less.

Re: Rick Trent laser kits

Thanks for the test awillis! Good job! Even though you did not let the laser cool down that does not justify 500mW you run that massive no longer then 15 seconds per lens.

In my feeling the BS is out of the air now. Soo now i am doubting all rick's measurements.

Greetings,,
