Don't ever argue with cops. It's a lost cause before it starts.

Be polite, ask for a warning instead, or for a lesser ticket, but if it's some jack@$$ on a power trip, just take the ticket, and drive away. You can usually always go to the prosecutor later, and they will reduce the ticket for you, for an extra couple hundred.

As for racing, I do agree that it's extremely dangerous on public roads. I've done it a couple times on completely open highways with zero traffic, but I'm certainly 100% against it on residential roads.

Going 10-15mph over the limit is not racing though.

Also most cops will not bother to pull you over if you're over the limit by less then 10, in most cases 15 mph. It's just not worth their time.

In Iowa they had nothing to do, I got pulled over for going 5 mph over the limit before. In a very strict area. The rest of my city you usually wouldn't get pulled over unless you are going 10 over. Over here in Florida (moved here, 2 weeks ago), its not as easy for the cop to just pull a U-turn in the middle of the road. In Iowa there are usually 1 or two lanes, here there is 3-5 busy lanes.

Uhm, yeah... around here if I see a cop on the other other side of the road, I usually speed up. Absolutely no way for them to turn around in 99% of cases.

Whenever traveling outside of the very densely populated area where I live, I'm always shocked at how few people, and stores, etc.. there are! I mean on my recent drive to vermont It took me half an hour to find a 24 hour gas station... and I still didn't, luckily found one in the middle of freaking nowhere that was closing in five minutes (at 11:30pm:banghead:) and was able to fill up... would have been a pretty shitty night if I couldn't get gas and was stuck in the middle of bumblef*ck nowhere:can:

Right now there are probably at least twenty 24 hour gas stations within a five mile radius of me.

Cedar Rapids was kind of like that, but here in Clearwater, Florida its a different story. I didn't even notice how small CR was until I moved here.

I know this thread's dead (and I'm noob) but it's all about timing, if (like me) You're on a COMPLETELY deserted long straight stretch of highway, how dangerous is it really? I'm personally more alert and attentive while speeding than normally, and if there's noone else to endanger what's the harm? I got tagged by a motorcycle cop sitting in the dark on the side of the road and would have killed for one of these.

Ya they are really helpful, you gotta watch how you use them though. When Im using mine, I dont drive faster than I usually drive. I just drive a little over the limit like usual and get alerts so I dont get a BS ticket.
