FS: The "Phobo-Stream" 1W+ 638nm Red w/ Magic! (Polarity Free)

attachment.php

This is my favorite build so far.... well, at least until the next time I decide that something is my "favorite build so far". She's a special one. A large part of the credit for this creation is really owed to Eud, who made the fantastic custom "Phobos" host, within which this build was born. Right up front I'll say that it's Eud who deserves the praise for a host design that really loves dissipating heat.

The build uses one of the new higher-output open-can Mitsubishi diodes, with a 650-G lens, and a very very special driver. This build uses a unique driver from a new series that I've sort of jokingly dubbed "Magic" drivers (the name is actually starting to grow on me). The driver doesn't care about battery polarity. When I say that it "doesn't care", I really mean it. There is no polarity to this build. Forget worrying about driver or diode damage from a backwards cell. Forget "reverse polarity protection" that merely gives you a heart-attack in those few seconds between when your build doesn't power up and the point where you realize your cell is in backwards. Most importantly, forget about battery polarity altogether. This build has no "backwards" :)

She's pretty stable, holding in the 1W+ range for the entire 2 minute duty cycle. Power comes from a single 18350 cell (not a type, that's 18350). But of course, if you want to use a CR123 / 16340, that is fine also. Use a good cell, particularly if going for the smaller 16340 instead of an 18350.

Price is: $375 + shipping.
Price lowered: $340 + shipping

I always ship via fully tracked and insured methods. Please PM me for a shipping quote.

You MUST own laser protection goggles appropriate for this wavelength, and
You MUST be over 20 years of age, and
You MUST be familiar and experienced with the appropriate safety precautions to take with lasers of this power.
You MUST NOT be a resident of Canada

This is not a laser pointing device. At all times, protective laser safety glasses appropriate for this wavelength must be worn by the operator. This laser should not be used around 3rd parties (non-operators) pets, or for any recreational purpose.

1W of 635nm must be astounding , the 300mW I got off you quite a while ago is still very happy doing 665mW w/ G2.

Amazing diodes.

Good luck with your sale.

Amazing stuff, always!
Really like the choice of a 1W bright red with this beautiful as hell design host!

Hey man you're being too kind.

The host is not much more than an optimized minimalistic design to house a large variety of lasers in it.

But, running a 1W red diode with polarity correction on single lithium ion cell is really something nice! I demand more beamshots, preferably with comparison to other colors.

And man, I still can't believe you pulled off that polarity correction thingy, dubbed "Magic", incredibly fitting name by the way. You gonna start selling them anytime soon?

Awesome work yet again, plus rep if system allows, and

That polarity correction magic is something very neat!

Wish all lasers had this feature in the future. haha

Good luck on your sale!

Yes, but in my mind, that is the definition of perfect. If you had more than "an optimized minimalistic design", it would no longer be an "an optimized minimalistic design" ;)

Thanks for all the kind words guys :)

Ahh I see your point. Good point!

Anyhow, just one question. That "Magic" addition, is it modular, or does it refer to a specific configuration of drivers?

Because I can already see how one could pull off exactly that with just two drivers, provided the build is case neutral.

If you actually have some sort of modular attachment to existing configuration, that's basically a licence to print money.

It's still just a single driver. The Phobo-Stream uses a driver with the Magic integrated. I'm in the process of getting it out there for other builders. Stay tuned :)

If only I had the cash...

I must say, love the simplicity of the design. Looks like a work of art.

Whoever gets their hands on this is a lucky bastard...

I know that it's pricey. I'm sorry about that :(

You might be surprised at how reasonable the markup on this build actually is. It's not really that high. This is an expensive diode, it includes a G lens, and the driver took quite a lot of work and many iterations to design.

I'm sure that one day we'll be harvesting these diodes for $30 each from some wonderful HD projector. Till then, it's a bit of a wallet burner. * Literally, if your wallet is black ;)

NO! I know it would be worth every penny! Actually looks like a very good price for what your getting here!
