Re: FS: 300mW MXDL Open Can Lasers With Heatsink

Impressive workmanship on these.
Beam was not as nice as I thought, doubt if thats any fault of Jays.
This is my first blu and I think I was expecting too much, like the beam of a green.
Very nice just the same, well capable of lighting up a dark room with a soothing violet beam.
Managed to pop a few balloons and I did light a match with this, though it took a while.
Some type of lanyard hooked up to the lens cap would have been nice, as they are super easy to lose .. But that may
not be practical due to the limited space on these devices.
All in all, highly recommended.

Sure thing Ray, take a look at my new 'Side Button Pocket Pal' builds:

Xray, thanks for letting my know you got it! You will find that once you get the hang of focusing it, your 118mW blu-ray will easily light matches. Instantly and 3'! With in 1 second at 7'. But the focus is very touchy. You should have proper eye protection for burning...

Green/yellow is the easiest for us humans to see.   ;)

My red laser from Jay was really impressive, I never thought I would be able to see the beam from a red laser EVER! (I could see it and it was not even dark)
If you want to be able to view the beam of your lasers just stick with green.   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Yes, if it was your first experience with a blu-ray, then it will seem dim. In the dark they are awesome though!

The blu-ray is the only one that makes things glow and fluoresce. Many will tell you that the blu-ray is their favorite color.

At that power, you will see the beam reaching out into the night sky, but of course, no comparison to even a 30mW green...

Its really that noticeable of a difference??

I have to newb questions then, hah.

A 75mW green would be more visible than a 250mW day or night??

And If i was to shine a 250mW red into the night ski, would it be noticeable from a difference??

Re: FS: 300mW MXDL Open Can Lasers With Heatsink

First let me just say that power is power. A 250mW red will burn like a 250mW green, but if you have the ability to focus (like with these builds), then you will be able to burn much, much better.

Proper eye protection laser goggles are recommended for burning.

That said, visibility is a completely different thing. 532nm green is the most visible to the eye, and even a 30mW green laser will be much brighter (visually) than a 250mW red.

Re: FS: 300mW MXDL Open Can Lasers With Heatsink

New: I have a Version 2 heatsink design for the sku's 4171 and 3405 hosts. Now you have another choice! :D

These two hosts have a massive heatsink and this new design still has plenty of mass...

V2 heat1.jpg

These two hosts have enough room inside that we can have a heatsink that is 'flat'. Not protruding out the front.

Still will fit either module. Here's how the finished build will look with the version 2 heatsink:

V2 heat3.jpg

So now you have more choices!

Just let me know which host for you build, heatsink style, module, diode, etc... (same price) :)

Pierce, I got your build done and it will be in today's mail! (Monday)

Pierce Umberger 12-22-08.jpg

I put a small dot of white paint to mark the 5' focal point.

Nice diode... putting out 255mW's through the AixiZ acrylic lens with the DDL driver set at 422mA's. :)

Looks pretty good with the version 2 heatsink!

Let me know when you get it...

Axle, got your 3405 build done! It will be in tomorrow's mail. (Tuesday)

AxleMeetTheGeeks.org 12 23 08.jpg

Set at 150mW's per your request. The long open can diode should have a very long life at this setting.

I have a small dot of white paint to mark the 5' focal point and this baby still burns very good at this power.

Please let me know when you get it!

Oh mate, you have made a geek REALLY happy to see that. I know I wanted it underpowered but for what I want, its perfect. If its a good as I think it is when it gets here, I'll want another one in the new year, but green or may bluray. Something more powerful too!!

Thank you again, I really cant thank you enough for the great communication and the great service. If anyone has any doubts about you, send them to me. I'll put them straight. Fantastic service and great in depth knowledge.

The only thing about the mini mate, is that I got massive hands, it would be easy for me to drop it if its that compact. I do like the host the green one is in!! I need something a little chunkier, but dont worry, we will find the perfect solution between us.. Thank you again

Well, for a sweet green build, that has a little larger host, I would recommend the Kryton. I don't mention these much because I only have two 1st run Kryton barrels left. They are custom barrels designed by Kenom. Made from solid aluminum. Rare, thus priced a little more:

Re: FS: 300mW MXDL Open Can Lasers With Heatsink

Thanks for that testimonial Jack! :)

That was back in March. It's good to know that it's holding up good for you. I often refer people to your post about how you got a 50' balloon pop using a tripod. You mentioned it in your second post here:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1206415617/0

I find that the focus is very touchy even at 20'. I don't know how you got it focused at 50', but that is awesome...
