Hey Fans of LPF:

I was given the Idea from JMiller for a wandering box of junk for noobs.. I am going to get one started in the next week or so and hopefully get it shipped out to the first person on the list by the 24 of april do to the fact my hours at work will be increasing... Ok here are the rules
First you have to been a member of LPF for at least two months. and have a positive rep of at least 5 and a minimum of 50 posts. The same rules as the vets box of wandering junk applies here as well... Dont want to see what you take out. Please for the rest of the members that will be on the list please try to make the Items you put into to the box are not junk. I will probably have a second in charge of this with me as my work schedule changes. What I would like to see on this thread are what you built with some of the parts that you got out of the box. since this is the first time for doing this it will not be a large box as I have some good parts just not alot of them.. I know many of you are in the same boat so .. I know maybe a vet or two may be joining this will not be strictly noobs to LPF but Vets if you decide to join our box of wandering stuff I would ask that you keep parts on part as close as you can with ours just to be fair to all that want to join.. I would ask of the vets to keep the diodes if they so choose to put them in the box under 1w for safety sake many of us do not have all the safety equipment yet. Built lasers can be gifted but I would rather us noobs built them for our selves only way we are going to learn any thing useful.. Knowledge is power... any other words of wisdom and advice pls pm me as like I said this is my first time trying some thing like this and if any one see any thing that needs attention please feel free to let me know

edit

"The 10 commandments of "the box"

1) box follows the list in order
2) receiver pays shipping to send box to next person on list
3) box is kept filled by volume
4) may take whatever you want from box but you must replace removed contents with new "junk" and fill the box back up
5) post receipt of box here at this thread
6) post when you send the box here at this thread
7) turnaround time no more than one week, preferrably less
8) no communicating what is put in box, Or what you take out just post on what you build with your goodies
9) nothing dangerous or illegal is to be sent in the box (batteries, caustic chemicals, etc) must follow the rules of USPS.
10) no outright trash should be put in the box. Needs to have some sort of conceivable use for someone. Have a little pride in how you handle the "box" "

Edit... The box will be sent back to Original sender to be used in the next run of Noob box of wander stuff...

Edit. Please members on the list pm the one above you your address so they have it to send the box on its merry way.. Thanks

EDIT.... This box is being CANCELED do to not enough support! I had hope to make it go but will try at a later date thanks to JmillerDoc BulbonicCronic,AdamBrowker for their help and wanting to be apart of this.......

Sounds good. Are we using Jmiller's thing about keeping it filled by volume?

And just add me to the list wherever :D

Keep it up bud you will get there it just takes time coming up crazy ideas finding out if they will work and asking questions only way that you will learn any thing

Awesome. If there is an overwhelming response on this you can give my spot up. I'm more interested in donating than receiving anything and I was planning to send stuff to Vortish before it gets going. Although it would be fun to see what's inside, I'd gladly give my spot up for a noob who wants in.

So are you saying you want people to put the same type of stuff back in that they take out? I'm not sure I'm following that too well. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you said.

While I get the idea of not wanting 1w diodes in a noob box I wanted to make a point that's not meant to be derogatory towards anyone. As a doc you know I'm safety minded and that's why I am saying this, no other reason. The choosing of 1w as a cutoff is arbitrary at best, and deceptive at worst (not that the person making this rule is being deceptive but rather the idea I might imply is deceptive, again I'm not saying Vortish is being deceptive, don't misquote me). It's arbitrary because there is an infinite range of dangerous power between about 10mW on up to a watt. It's deceptive because it may imply to a noob that somehow anything less than a watt is "safer". I would rather have a noob playing with a 3w 445 than a 750mW 808. At least he could see the 445 and avoid a dangerous projection.

Call me an old fuddy duddy but I really care that nobody ever gets hurt with the knowledge (and now potentially free lasers) they obtain here at LPF. Just remember it's all potentially dangerous from about 10mW (possibly less with a prolonged retina strike) on up and eye protection is not optional.

I'll get off the soap box now......great effort Vortish, way to contribute as a new member. So many new members come here with their hands held out for something, rarely do yo use one joining and giving back like this. Rep'd ya +

Guys what I mean is if you take diodes out you should put some thing of equal vaule in to the box.. This is just a suggestion not a rule set in stone... As for the limitations on power Items as a 1 watt diode people are free to put what ever they feel like sharing but I have seen the prices on some of those diodes and they are kind of spendy.. and a lot of noobs do not have the proper safety gear yet and I would hate for some one to hurt them selves. I just ordered my safety glasses last week should be here this week.. I will change some of the words in the rules up top..
