Really? Nobody's got an old Rigel or something that they bought back in the day that they're tired of? You could use the money and upgrade to a stabler 589nm :yh:

Heh, Chris, I'm the wrong person to ask as I have the same 'completion' issue as you; though I do feel you might be slightly disappointed with some of the 2mW Rigels. I do have one and... it's kind of my "backup 593.4" but, admittedly its usually 532 and kinda bleh.

Have you tried talking to Laserglow? They probably have some on hand that they're -never- going to move. (Oh, and if you hear of a good deal on them.... let me know...)

OK,
Got mine today and immediately installed 2 fresh energizer batteries in each.
The 532nm has a nice beam and dot for about 2-3 seconds and then drops to a dot on the wall and a VERY, VERY, light beam.

The 405nm is not a dot at all. I'm not even sure how to describe it other than a sorta line made from small dots along the top and a spider web looking difraction pattern mixed in. It shows like this even when pointed at a dark/black background.

i've read that some 405's are usually not a perfect dot but tend to have a scatter effect. Is this right or do you think I just got 2 dud's? I know it's hard to judge without pics but I just wanted to post my observations. I will try to post some pics soon.
The 405nm beam is lightly visable in the dark when viewed from behind the laser down it's length.

The second pic is about 20' away without flash.

The strange looking artifacts do not show up in the pics.

I just got mine today and they're the same way. It's not a dud, it seems that is how most of these simple 405's look off of a non-fluorescent surface. I've heard it has mostly to do with how close to UV it is - it's almost as if you can't quite focus your eye's on the 'spot', right?

I see something similar to this with mine - at about 30 feet there seem to be a dozen separate dots, yet leaving the laser in the same place and getting closer to the far wall, the effect diminishes. At 2 feet from the far wall, so approx 28 feet from the laser, the dot is actually quite clean - at that range there's no sign at all of the multiple dots I saw from farther away. Is this the same as what you are seeing?

I don't see anything similar from my PHR.

Just got mine today. Shipping was much quicker than expected. Seems to peak at about 50mw!!

However, maybe 1/10th of the time, it seems to dim down to about 10-20mw.

Smokes leather, cuts tape, and all that fun stuff with the aid of a lense. Beam is visible in a lit room even when perpendicular to it!

Except for the dimming issue, which really isn't that serious (probably a button thing), and the unavoidable cheapness of the New Wish host, this was a great buy!

Well I've sent them a nice email about it... now I'm just awaiting a response that hopefully contains some approximate price points so I can start a Feeler. What model do you think we should push for? I think instead of trying to get the Rigel-2 (0.6-1.9mW) as low as we can (from $299 to... say, $200-ish), we should go for the Rigel-5 (2.0-4.9mW) or the Rigel-6 (5-9mW). The latter two cost $399 and $499, respectively. Maybe if we get enough people, we can get the Rigel-6 down to <$300 :san:

Here's to hoping we'll get a sweet GB out of this :beer:

Thankfully it was only a $9 fail. I doubt you could fix it, or that its worth fixing if you could. Take it a part and check it out, but I would not waste my time trying to fix it.

$9 was worth the experimentation which is what I think this site is all about. I will gladly take another chance with my next one with just one 10440 and let everyone know how long it lasts.

I do have to say for a 3V module it took 8V well for the 5 straight minutes that it was running and I got some good beam shots for the community.:eg:

Its not really an experiment. Its a lack of research, and a waste of money, and nothing else.

You can put the batteries in parallel.

Looked around a little and found a few people wondering if it would take it. I was just trying to satisfy that query. But you are right I did not do any research beyond reading this thread and the one in the review section.

Running in parallel would achieve longer run times.

But I will stick with one with a spacer for ease of set up.

The ability to have a rechargeable battery with good run times would be cool.

And they are only $9
