I don't understand the interest in that particular multimode diode, unless you just want a rare diode to find, when you can easily buy a low divergence single mode blue which will put out more power (over 100mw), or can be turned down to the same.

Edit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/OSRAM-450nm...D-Single-Mode-PL450B-TO18-5-6mm-/110887370015

Specs: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_6-KC5wFXIJT1FSUUpibDlxVGc/view?usp=sharing&pref=2&pli=1

I have some of the PL450B diodes and due to their wavelength are very weak to the eye, the beam even dim at night but because of their low divergence can put a relatively small spot a long distance away, something the NDB7242E can't do as a multimode diode.

For what it is worth, I spent a long time searching the net trying to find one of those, lol... glad you fixed it!

yup i did the same thing i found it on a webpage and i saw the date was 2008
I did a cool build i also have a 445nm from wicked laser a E2 i got it from laser chick and i found out its the same diode kinda cool

Edit: I haven't seen the color of one of those NDB7242E diodes, but I prefer blue closer to 465-470nm myself. Combing a 520nm with 450nm makes a blue with a white-like component, much like in your signature gif I really like, if CDBEAM777 builds a few of the Cyan Cannons he has been working on I hope to get one from him, but I think he has bigger fish to fry and has put that on hold.

The camera picked up the beam very well, I have a lot of the PL450B diodes I want to knife edge together to make more power. I bought them because of being single mode and how far the beam can go due to minimal beam spread, at least, for a laser diode. Blue is awesome, but sure is weak to me compared to green, even my NUBM44 just doesn't seem bright enough for 7 watts but is one hell of a burner. I'm now wishing for PBS cube combing a pair of those 7 watt output diodes, I'd sure like to see where someone else has done that, that way the two beams would combine right on top of one another, it ought to be bright enough then. A knife edged quad of NUBM44 diodes would be awesome, have you seen this one? Not NUBM44's, but over 10 watts of output all together.

The laser pointer hobby is like ham radio, most buyers want to pay what it costs for the parts of a completed, or near completed host alone, if that. DTR is doing it right, just selling parts at a markup but even he has a fair bit of labor extracting some of the diodes he can't order.

Darn... I see a post in his reputation which probably explains it. Last here on: Last Activity: 10-24-2013 08:37 PM
