I'm looking around for a good deal on a hand-held green laser. I have looked at O-Like and found some I like there, but i can across a 200mw green for $33. I'm thinking this is probably not going to be 200mw for 30 bucks, but I don't know.
200mW 532nm Flashlight Style Green Laser Pointer with Charger (2*AAA)

I was wondering if i bought the super beast and replaced the laser diode in it with a 1 watt 808nm and was able to drive it, could i get 200mw+ out of it? I'm thinking the crystals will not be able to handle a full watt, but say 600mw - 700mw input.

First off, you cant buy a real 200mW 532nm laser for under $50.

Secondly, sure you can try it, thats why we are all here. But it may die really quick because those specific crystals are not designed to be pushed at a higher rate. Thats why pot modding doesnt work anymore.

The crystals, are they burning up or are they degrading from the light?

Both. They may ever fracture from the higher power. Also, if they use a 9mm IR diode it will cost you around ~$25 to get the new diode, maybe more if it uses a C-mount. Some people had to cut the can off the diode to get it to work right.

Its worth a shot if you have some cheap pieces around, but I think the effort wouldnt be worth the prize.

What do you think of the O-Like 400mw green? Many people seem to like it. The price doesn't seem to bad for a true 400mw green. Do you know anybody who is selling one on here?

Hi,

I have just received my 400mw green laser(actual output 350mw as stated on website) from O-like.

I am very impressed with the quallity for the price. The beam is ridiculously bright and burns very well. I would recommend buying from O-like direct if you can't find a s-h model.they have a 6 month Warranty.

(I do hope you have the correct protective eyewear !)

good luck!

I know it was 350mw rated, but some people say there's were over spec and they were getting more then that. Ether way I think I would be happy with it.

Hi,

your right, they could be overspec however I dont have a power meter.
I own a 200mw red (old style)from O-like and that burns ok,but this greenie burns far better than I imagined it would at not even double the power(350mw) so,you could well be right. I wonder if anyone on here have measured the actual power?.

I can't see how anyone could fail to be impressed with this laser!

good luck and all the best!

Well, there is one way, have it arrive near DOA and have to ship it back once it dies, I guarantee you won't be impressed after that.

While O-Like as a company is good, and seems up to spec (I'll use them again I'm sure), with good customer service, the 400mW model is iffy.

Also it's extreme overkill for star pointing... would be too bright. Another problem is the short duty cycle. For star pointing 30mW-50mW is best... almost no need to worry about duty cycle either. I've run some cheapies for over 20 minutes at a time with no problem.

Hi,

Im glad you like your 400mw greenie! its stupidly bright!!! :eg:

I would be interested to hear what an lpm would read. I agree that using this laser for astronomy would be overkill :D, (I like astronomy also and I am thinking of buying a green laser around the 30mw mark.)

I would be interested in seeing the LPM results as well after you get your LPM. How long does it take to ship from O-Like to the US?

Since the O-like sold out, what would you recommend for a green laser between 200mw-300mw. I have seem bhwollen selling his O-like for $250, but I'm looking for the best laser for around $100.

You're not gonna find a good 200-300mW green laser for $100. You need to either lower the output expectation or raise the price.

Yobresal is doing a GB for a 100mW $65 laser. There is a 200mW Dino laser which is getting decent reviews (it's really around ~170mW with IR) but with Dino there is no guarantee from one laser to the next.

Go through the forum, I'm sure you'll see something you like. O-like lasers tend to be close to spec... for the most part and they have excellent customer service, so I would consider this: 150mW transformable green laser/adjustable [OLV6100] - $108.00 : Welcome to O-Like.com, Your source for laser products

For your first high powered laser, it won't disappoint.
