With the challenges that BF is going through, it became evident that the Throwies group buy would be placed far to the back of the priority list. The event that I am going to use them at is rapidly approaching. I decided to see what I could do on my own. This is the result.
If you don't know what I'm taking about, check out this thread:

For what my purpose is, I didn't need assorted colors so I just looked for the best deal I could find. I found a guy on eBay that was/is clearing stuff out. I got the first batch of these LED's from him. After our auction concluded, he increased his minimum bid significantly! He wants about 11 cents apiece now (if you buy 1000). I got them for 6 cents apiece, but I got 1000 of them. There is no way I'm going to use 1000 LED's so I thought maybe some of the members that were in on the throwies GB might want some. I will sell them to you for what I paid (6 cents each), plus $3 for shipping any amount in the US. International postage will higher.
Anyway, they are all blue and directional. They are also very bright. I can attest to the statement that if you look directly into the beam, it is uncomfortable in a dark room. I have also tested them out with one of the batteries that I will provide a link to for you to purchase. It was very bright for 6 days. It is still going 8 days later, but it is no longer throwing the bright beam. It is still a pretty blue, but the beam has dimmed. They are bright enough that we used them as night lights and flashlights last weekend when the power went out here. Here is a link to his current auction so you can read about the LED's:

I found good prices for the rest of the components as well. I am NOT selling these other items. I am just providing you with the links to what you will need to complete your throwies. I am ONLY selling the LED's that I have.
Here is the link for the batteries:

If you pay the "buy it now" price, these will cost you 9 cents apiece. If you get them for less in an active auction, you save even more.
Here is the link to the magnets I am using:

If you use these and use the "bulkrate" code, they end up $2.36 for 10 (about 24 cents each) If you can use smaller magnets, you will reduce your cost. However, it you are really going to "throw" them, I wouldn't go much smaller.
OK. For 200 throwies (all blue) you will pay me $15 for the LED's, DX $47.20 for the magnets, and the eBay guy $18 for the batteries (all including shipping). That's a total of $80.20. That works out to just barely over 40 cents apiece! That's better than the Group buy prices we were working on.
Anyway, if you are interested in the LED's, let me know. If you just want some killer blue LED's for another project, I won't be very upset If you don't throw them at a building somewhere
Peace,
dave
