I build and sell laser spirographs. look at my posts for them if your interested. heres the pricing
the two motors i use are cooling fans, quieter and better also last longer.
2X motors @ 12.99 each comes to roughly 26 bucks
2X battery holders @ 1.79 each comes in at roughly 3.50
1x potentiometer @ 4.79 comes to roughly 5 bucks
foam board is about 2 bucks
mirrors are roughly 1.50

*if anyones wondering about the size its 9in length, 3.5in width and 2.5in height. its very portable, the lid stays closed with a magnet.

The total cost for the build comes in just under 40 bucks. i sell them for that same price so im not really profeting (maybe 1 or 2 dollars) i just charge the cost of the materials. let me know if your interested.

You can get cheaper motors, you do not have to use fans-- small motors that you can find in all kinds of toys

Why do you you use only 1 Pot when you have 2 motors... :-?

Are all the parts Brand New or are you using some salvaged parts... :-?

i know i dont have to use them but i dont like other motors its harder to mount the mirrors and the fans are a lot quieter. this thing doesnt give off more than a small whisper.

Well what the pot does is it also acts as a switch, so i turn it to click and it turns on the first motor, the first motor is always at a constant speed. when i turn the pot more it controls the other motor. i dont think two pots are nessecary but if your ever interested in buying ill make one with 2 if youde like. also the parts are all BRAND NEW i hate using old parts that i found lying around. i bought everything after i sold my 50 mW to my friend for 45 bucks ;)

Personally, I think the fans are a waste for what they do--you can get really cheap ones from DX or somewhere-- $13 for a motor is a bit excessive. IF you use cheaper motors, you can sell them easily and maybe make some profit

the only problem with dx is that your orders will take a while to fulfill. if you want me to use dx motors for your spirograph than instead of 26 bucks for the two fans send me 5 bucks for the dx fans. but it will take probably 3 extra weeks. or if i get enough offers ill order a bunch of fans in bulk maybe like 10-15 and do it that way. but its easier these fans are very good quality and i can buy them locally.

if any one needs mini motors i have some for 1.50 each there like 1" x 1" if i find a nice box for mine ill let u make me one but for know i dont have a nice box :(

If the motors are 1x1 than just go to a local radioshack and buy a small project box they're really nice for these builds
