This laser:

products

I could do it as a group buy. I contacted Frank and he assured me they would be up to spec. Not so sure though because I've never actually had or heard of a Viasho portable of this power.

If I can get 10-15 people who are interested I can get them for closer to ~$590 a pop (including an 18650 + charger + shipping)

500mW IR filtered for ~$600. Interested? Slash should we do this?

I know you have a link, but you might want to put a description of the product of interest.

Jack with Optotronics did some groupbuys for the higher-powered portables from Viasho. Though I don't think you have to buy through a group buy, or so I heard. Either way, interested.

Hi Prototype,
Yes, we run group buys each month (except in months where no one was interested).
We also always order an extra one or two of the 500mw version on GBs of more than a few so that in case there is an issue with one when we test power, to ensure that everyone in the GB gets one that meets the power spec the 1st time out.
Here's the link to get in on the next GB
Viasho Group Buy Lasers
There is an additional 5% discount if payment is made by mail with a postal money order, email use at contact@optotronics.com if you would like the details as how pay by postal money order.

Well they give you a discount the more that are ordered. So a GB is beneficial :)

It feels a bit silly to press no on a pool like this as it's purpose is to check for interested people, but the option is there. :)
It happens to be way out of my current budget.

I think it would be a good idea to make it clearer that/if the output is verified as I have managed to overlook it so far. :D

True. But oh well :)

Here is the exact email and all I really have to go by for now about output.. I do realize they can say anything they want though:
Hi,dear Bryson

Yes,I am sure that all Viasho lasers will meet the specification.

Best regards.

Ok, the company appear well known for non-portable lasers and should be perfectly capable of manufacturing a 500mW portable.
I guess they are trying out a new marked segment. :)

Getting some details on construction of heatsink the monster and some power readings may spur interest.

Viasho makes the RPLs sold by Optotronics, just in the silver body and Jack personally tests them, hence the difference in price, and Jack only sells the <1.2mRad models, I think.

not sure of the cost for a 500mW but the JETLASERS GB on a PGL PL_C 250mW only costs $5 more, is way 0verspec, has both tailcap pin key and circular key above the switch ,has a shutter, & comes with the 18650 charger and is focusable with a longer warranty. GB#1 is now closed but a second one has already started.

Are they saying this definitely does 500mW? 1~500mW is quite the range.

I think what they mean by that^^^ is they offer several lasers in that range of powers. lowest to highest---seen that before with other sellers.

I think I read somewhere that they can meter it before sending it out. I would not do biz what any company that does not offer to do that upon request.

Optronics has a very good rep.

I think I may just purchase one as a sample and let you guys know how the laser looks/tests/etc.

Then we can discuss getting a bigger group together to get them at a discount.
