Somehow it still works as an led. I learned my lesson lol. Yeah, I've taken the liberty to read up it here. I can't wait for the new one to come.

Question though, do I really need a circuit if I'm not looking for anything accurate in my laser. The guide just has the diode being plugged into a mini-mag, would that work okay?

in short;


minimag = no regulation circuit = very very short life for laser diode

dorcy jr./ riverrock / MXDL / surefire = REGULATED circuitry = far, far, far, better results.



conclusion = friends dont let friends use minimag ::)

Now, where in the world did you hear THAT craziness ? LOL ! Yes - the diodes have been ordered, and paid for - I managed to scrape up a few extra bucks to get some spares ordered in as well, that way we are safe from price hikes for a few hundred more diodes :)

Oh, I suppose you want the rest of the info as well ! I FULLY expect them on either Friday or Saturday - he changed from EMS to Fedex (more damned shipping costs, GEESH !) so not sure how fast they ship - so we will all learn at the same time :)

now to find a housing. i am thinking i could just get one of those better quality 1mw red's and just samshing the diode and stuff out, and putting the diode in the with the driver circuitry. it will still have the adjustable lens infront of th diode.

As long as you are talking about Daedals circuit, or similiar, you will do well - do not try to use the VERY low, and inadequate driver boards that come with the low powered modules - you will get only 5mw out of your fancy schmancy Sony diode that way ! YUCK !

i am definately going to use DDL's circuit, but i was wondering if the lenses in the cheap 1mw reds will work? actually these 1mw reds aren't that cheap, they are a pretty good quality, i was just wondering if it will work as a casing?

Sometimes you can get lucky and everythign will work perfect - I have never been able to tear into a cheapo pointer to rese it myself, so I eally cannot say :(

I am reading that cheap laserhousing will not work :-?
but a 650nm 5mw 12X30mm Aixiz wil do fine right???

Well, the Aixiz module is more of a universal housing, and it works perfect for what we use it for ! :)

The other housings I do not have any experience with, I jsut know that a lot of them are made specifically for a chepo rd, and in attempting to dissasemble them, I have shreded the module, etc :(
