I think $17.50 is still a nice deal for a brand new module, dont get me wrong on that, but:

Seriously - I highly doubt anyone can find a 16X Sony DVD burner for $17.50 shipped....so these are still a good deal.

Makes me wonder what the actual market price is manufacturers pay for these diodes. Considering the price of 16x burners i'm sure they must get them a lot cheaper, albeit in much larger volumes.

Perhaps there are good deals on the surplus market for diodes, since most dvd writer manufacturers seem to switch to produce the fastest possible drives quickly. Makes me think there must be containers full of 8x and 12x diodes gathering dust -- if only we could find them ;)

Benm - THAT is the kinda stuff that keeps me awake some nights - thinking of THOUSANDS of didoes sitting in a warehouse somewhere, with no home, or flashlight to play with ! Yeah - I can imagine that some of the bulk items in rolls are out there, sitting waiting to be sent off for melting down into scrap gold or something....damn, the waste !

these are DIODES not modules, you have to put them in a housing (like the aixiz modules).
i get that feeling too, there are millions of diodes sitting there, but with no use!!

Wow!

I came over here from CPF, and saw this group buy immediately.

I missed out on the group buy on CPF and have been looking to get a few diodes.

Is the dorcy Jr. driver suitable for this diode? I have read the tutorial on the DIY laser with the dorcy Jr and also the other group buy threads, and it seems that the dorcy current is a little high at 350ma.

Has anyone used this diode with this light successfully?
I have a dorcy Jr and it would perfect if I could use it.
I think its time for me to make my move from high power LEDs to lasers. I have quite a few lights that i wouldn't mind converting to lasers, but seeing as the light in the tutorial is the dorcy JR, That would be perfect for my first DIY laser.

Oh and at 17.50, is that shipped? ( I live in canada)

I mean diodes indeed, although these at least come in a proper 'can', while some of the simplest 5mW red lasers consist of little more that the actual chip on a tiny PCB.

I'm sure some of the diodes for older/slower dvd burners will pop up evetually, i've seen this happen with many electronic components... sometimes even containers full of transistors, decades old, that still reach the market because of a demand for repairwork and such. Sites like alibaba.com are nice sources to find suppliers, but there usually is no price information and contacting all those companies would be a lot of work...

aww no moonburning here for us australians. although, with a good enough laser, we could use the moon as a giant post it note between us and australia, overnight.

next night, senkats place "oh, there seems to be a note for me. hmm, hmm, hmm. ok. *writing with laser* couple days..."

You guys are ALL certifyably insane ! LOL !! I LOVE IT ! I fit right in, then !

Here is hte scoop on the diodes, one and all - They are being sent out to me on Wednesday, and I will be wiring funds on Tuesday, instead of Monday - the reason for the one day delay in wiring is that I am buying as many extras as possible at the moment, in an attempt to lock the price in at this low point - As many as I can buy now, will mean no more price hikes for hte near future ! I am currently buying 200 extras - not too much "leisure" money left around my household for investments such as this, but it will at least lock the price in for a while for everyone, so that is good ! If will also mean no shipping delays - you buy, I ship ! Anyways, keep the orders rolling in - as long as he does ship on Wednesday as expected, then I should receive them before Saturday, and that means shipping on Saturday ! :)

One more thing - for those using google checkout - you will get a notification that it has shipped once I process the order - that is incorrect, but it is the only way I can get the funds out of Google ! So - do not be alarmed once you get that message !

I recommend that people use Google, its extremly quick and easy! Alot easier than PayPal, and lets face it, we can do SenKat a favour and avoid any fee's on this!! 5 diodes all paid for! ^_^ Can't bleeding well wait ^_^
