Sweet!
I've only seen them in this size, are they not available any larger?

The one i have is 1" in length. Thats the length of the enternal cavity containing the gas, while the entire container is about 1.5" long. It glows a very cool green

I'm pretty certain that Rolex still uses tritium on their watch hands. My Explorer II from 1999 definitely uses it and it still glows bright when fully charged by light. Bill

Tritium does not need to be charged with light, in fact light has no effect on it.

The light comes from atomic decay of the radioactive hydrogen.

Those uranium marbles are soooo weak that 100 of them barely goes above background radiation on my counters. I was almost disappointed when I got them.. Radium however is a different story. Caution with that stuff.

well you either got weak marbles or your counters aren't sensitive enough

the sensitivity of the counter is specific to what you wan to measure , i can measure sensitivity in rocks , but that doesnt mean i will worry,.

i used to use astro physics counters whenever i measure airport scanners every month... and those shoot x ray from a large , heavy oil cooled generator..

Yes, tritium does glow without light charging; but Rolex explained it as the phosphors in the bonding agent becoming excited and glowing. If you light charge my tritium watch dial it glows brighter than the glow of the tritium without light charging. It glows brighter proportionately to the amount and intensity of the light that it is exposed to. Of course this is short lived (and it's definitely tritium, not Luminova or Superluminova (which are also cool products). Bill
