Hmm... I would be interested in one of these :)

Also, do you or Dark_Horse have specs on the size of the heatsink (or more so, the length)? I just want to see how the button will be accounted for or in relation to location of the heatsink.

And, WL's site says their Sonar takes 3xCR123A batteries??

The 'sinks have not been designed yet, so there are no real "specs" yet. I will have to see what we can do once I get the sample in my hands, (should be soon). I do plan to attempt to incorporate a "button-solution" into the HS, but again, I will know more once I get a chance to work with the host. I would guess that the button was originially meant to be on the driver, like in a "pen-laser".

Oh, Sonar II says 3xCR123A... did they add an extra battery for the Sonar II?

Nah, the cases can only fit 2x CR123a. No idea why the site says 3x...

Here's some pics of the cases that have arrived to me! They are exactly the same as the pics in the first post, except they are white! Man they are cool...

Click the thumbnails for the big versions!

that stinks. I wanted the silver version not the baby milk version. Just doesn't look as good to me. Creamy painted laser just doesn't do it for me.

They changed them. But never got around to changing the text. Note where the button was on the old ones(right beside the Blu Ray logo) They had to be up that high because they needed to fit 3 cr123's. Now its only two. (Thats why the button is lower)

Nope. I have several of the "old" style, and they only ever have fit in two CR123 batts, sorry.

Dark_horse, I'm interested in your sonar heatsink solutions as I have 3 sonar cases sitting on my bench, much as senkat described :) I'd like to be able to fit FlexDrives in them along with your heatsink.
Do you have an estimated price?

Kenom, if you don't like the white you could just paint the barrels :)

As you can see from the original pic, I've got a plain silver one as well. However there is NO protective coating on it, and it scratches pretty easily. Where as the new cases have tough white paint on them. Even if it doesn't look better to you, to me the white one has a much better feel :)

Midknight, the front screws off them :)

drlava, price for Dark_Horses heatsinks will be around $20-25 but until he gets my cases and makes a prototype, we won't know an exact figure :)

Back ontopic, the price will be $75 (which includes shipping to US) for a Sonar Barrel and a heatsink for it. You can't buy Sonar cases anymore, and due to the diode mounting problem (that is being solved with the heatsink) people didn't make any lasers with them.

But now you can :) If you're willing to splash out a little extra than just a DX flashlight, you can make a seriously awesome looking laser for a DIY project :)

8 of these Sonar/heatsink sets will be available. Anyone interested, just post here and I can reserve one for you :) But it'll be 3-4 weeks before these are ready to be shipped.

Great. So that solves the problem with not being able to focus the lens.

I do have to be fair and let every one know that Wicked Lasers is only out of stock. Within 2-3 weeks the DIY Sonar cases will be back up on their site. However, They have discontinued the chrome Sonar I. So they will be sold in white now. It is unclear whether or not they will offer chrome as an empty DIY though. I guess because their still in the stage of making the cases. And don't know if they want to do half in white, and half in chrome. Or all white. Because the chrome ones would only be sold as DIY's. (since the built version has been discontinued).

I would be interested in one when it worked out... as I expressed before, I would just like some details on the heatsink once Dark_Horse gets it fabbed so that I can know what sort of driver/switch interface I'll need.

If I need to make anything custom, I could possibly make enough for everyone else buying these as well, if they wanted  :)

Also, Murudai, do know if the case is designed for case ground or case positive?  I'm guessing the batteries would work either way, but I just want to make sure.
