Thanks for the compliment Glasserfan! Just to chime in here about the the Stonetek diodes from Greg, this is the best diode to get if you don't feel comfortable harvesting a DVD drive. Can't beat the price either!

With the Sony/Senkat diodes, I like running them at 294mA's. (4.3 ohm resistor in a DDL style driver) This will give you about 200mW's through an AixiZ acrylic lens. Of course, at that power, I would recommend a pretty good heatsink in there.

Hemlock Mike tested the latest diodes from Stonetek. Here's the thread:

It looks like you could safely push them even more. A 3.9 ohm resistor will put you at about 323mA's in a DDL driver. Again, get a good heatsink in there for the higher current builds...

the diode is from a 16x panasonic dvd burner and i used a ddl driver with to 10 ohm resistors and a nice heatsink it worked great for me for few weeks befor i sold it to him

Ok, then a diode from StoneTek would work just fine with this setup.

EDIT: The diode would put out around 175mW with the current setup, but it could put out more if the resistors were to be changed.

hey i was looking on Hightechdealz and he has a 245mw diode for like 19$
would that work and gimme 245mW ??

food prices have been going up, i mean everything is going up.
If the usa, would not spend Billions of dollars on the war, then everything would be cheaper.
i mean there spending billions for nothing really, like nasa, who the hell wants to Study about other planets. we already have enough information ?
there spending money to look for "Extraterrestrial life" which no one cares about.

Space Travel is what will eventually save the human race. Gas will go down after we start utilizing the oil we have in the US, food prices are rising because oil cost more. Everything keeps going up, but it will more than likely fall because people will have no money.

Your crying about gas prices because your four wheeler needs gas and then blaming it all on the war, our president and the development of new weapons......... dude?!!!?? Choke yourself!! I am a soldier the US Army, and i like to think what we do makes a difference and that all the soldiers that have died gave there lives for something, if you have such a problem with the situation that our nation is in.... leave. Anyways back on subject..... does the laser have a heatsink??

Calm down man, this thread was doing good. And which one of the two lasers are you asking about? The flashlight style does have a heatsink, I don't know about the box style.

sorry, people make me mad sometimes . yeah i was talkin about the flashlight. Is the heatsink spun on a lathe or is it just a chunk of metal?

I don't remember how Jake makes them, but I remember him saying he didn't use a lathe. It doesn't matter though, as long as there's a chunk of aluminum to help keep the diode cool everything should be fine.

The new diodes I am selling are Sonly SLD1239JL-54, and have a higher CW rating from the manufacturer - they are MUCH more stable than the previous diodes (Sony SLD1236VL) I was selling.
