Re: FS: 225mw br laser

Just to say thanks for posting guys...

And also that I'm sorry jake21 if this messed up your FS thread, but actually it only draws more attention to it!

Jacob did approach me about the Micro chrome laser before hand, and I told him that I showed the idea and details of the modification. But since I am not selling complete lasers, but only kits, that I guess it wouldn't be so bad.

But we never talked about the lens modification Jake!

It is a free world, and I have no patent, but you will make yourself look bad for copying my design idea and selling it. I have seen that you have a very creative side and you make many different builds. You can do your own custom design idea for a specific host. Why don't you find a nice side button host. There are not too many of those being offered...
Jay

P.S. Your response to my PM saying...  'I'm selling the lenses with my lasers', is the same thing Jake. Selling my idea whether with your laser, or by itself is the same.

I have given you tons of help and advice and what tools, bits, to buy, etc... for you lathe.
Man Jake, after all the advice and help, links and everything I have given you... I gave you the information because I thought it was for DIY stuff, not so you could start selling the same items that I am selling!

Re: FS: 225mw br laser

@ Laserbee.. The brass housing I sent you is a little different than the one im speaking of here. The nut is from Axiz, and is the same as Jayrobs.

One thing though, I wont be selling these as parts, but rather using them in handhelds to sell.

Jay's mod uses the nut upside down with the front of the nut facing the diode. He drills and ads a spacer to achieve the focus, where as mine is simply remove the the original lens, pop int the new one with a retaining ring and away you go :)

I will post pics of it in the sale thread for my 3 pieces of 330mW 6x bluray handhelds. If there is any objection to it,  I trust that I will hear about it.

I was going to use the brass mounts that I have, but they are just too short, and I know that people want to focus their lasers on the fly, so it just isnt in the cards for me :(

This is what the brass mount looked like, but again, you can see its too short and is only good for fixed focus.

Thank you all for the responses, I just dont want to step on toes here ;)

Re: FS: 225mw br laser

The other problem with this kind of thing is when I saw that AR 405nm bare lens on Ebay I knew it would have to be mounted up in a M9x0.5mm nut to make it compatible with an AixiZ module.  I put it on my to do list a while back, never actually got around to it though. Jay has started making them, so does this mean I will get jumped all over if I sold a laser with an AR lens mounted in a M9 nut? Keep in mind there are only so many ways to skin a cat - my design whatever it is when I examine the problem in more detail will likely be similar to at least one of the other three? designs out there.

Hmm, just noticed how the head doesn't fully screw flush onto the host body. You should cut down the host body a bit to make it flush, cause I'm sure if somebody wants to spend this kind if money on the laser that they want it as professional looking as possible. If you cannot screw it down all the way that would be a negative in my book.

Depends on what does it for you. Space will be limited in a build in this host so that is likely to be a factor as well.

Re: FS: 225mw br laser

For the record though, in my higher end handhelds with adjustable focus, I swap an axiz acrylic lens into the metal axiz nut to avoid the easy wear of the plastic nut threads.

For those of us who build solid lasers that last, its nice to offer a metal focus assembly over the cheapo plastic. The extra few bucks is well worth it.

I would figure this would be common practice by now :-?

If you get Joe's design for a widget and make a doohicky for yourself with that widget, you are cool.

If you buy a widget from Joe, build a doohickey with it, sell the whole thing to Sam, and tell Sam that it has one of Joe's widgets, then you are cool.

If you buy one of Joe's widgets (or take his designs form the net), make a copy of it, make a doohicky with your copy, and then sell the dohickey, you have stolen from Joe.

Peace,
dave

How did you get this out of my post?

Re-read the second sentence.

If you buy one from him every time you sell one, you are cool.  He becomes one of your "wholesale" component suppliers.  I have sold, literally, dozens of lasers with Jayrob heat sinks in them.  I bought them from him.  I didn't copy his design and sell them.  For the money I paid out in heat sinks, I could have easily bought a small lathe and copied them to increase my profit.  He got paid for them because they were his design.  It is only if you make a copy of it and sell it, that you are stealing.

This isn't even much of a discussion about you.  It got started because it appeared that you were making lenses like Jayrob's and selling it and Jayrob called you on it.  I don't know if you are doing that or not.  It doesn't help that you have a history of this type of action, but it is not just about you.  It is a discussion about intellectual property.

Peace,
dave

Re: FS: 225mw br laser

Look Jake, it's the Micro Chrome build, the lens mod, and the fact that I have given you all kinds of help with your lathe and what size bits to get, what size taps and set screws... lots of stuff like that...

So when I saw this, I had to say something.

I have not said anything to the other guy, because it will only draw attention to his thread.

There's nothing I can do to stop anyone from copying my designs or ideas. I know this. But it does not look good for you. You bring this on yourself.

As far as what WannaBurn is talking about, this sounds like a different design. I tried that with these lenses first, and did not like it. Because I could not get focus with the 'finger grip' focus ring in place. Now, I'm sure if I used some thread lock, and just threaded the focus ring on half way, it would probably get focus...
Jay

P.S. What Dave said is spot on! He sells his builds and rightly describes certain ones as having a jayrob heatsink. But I did not sell you one of my lens mods.

Re: FS: 225mw br laser

When it comes to hosts, i.e. flashlights there really can be no objection voiced in my opinion.  Its what goes *inside* them which is the point imho.  There are several different hosts used commonly on this forum as they are all good hosts.  While credit can be given to such and such a person for first using this or that host, they certainly don't hold any ip over that host itself, only what they fit to it.

Re: FS: 225mw br laser $125.00

Jake, is your diode truly putting out 226mW with a acrylic lens @ 180mA? I am thinking you may want to fix the numbers, cause I bet those #'s were from the glass lens right?
