Default FREE 650nm Laser Diode for Dummy Loads

I am giving away a small LOT of 650nm Samsung Diodes. I have several hundred. These were pushed out of a customer's assembly. Can may be dented, and window cracked or broken. These are just 7mW units so it's not for burning, etc. I was thinking it would be nice to have a dummy load and instead of all 1NXXXX diodes in the string, it might be nice to see the string "light up." What better way to have a visual indication that all is OK with a driver without risk to our expensive diodes. Plus it's a laser, not just an LED. Is this a good idea? Not for building a module, as these are damaged, but still lase.

These are low current units, and can't just be in series with the 1N diodes. Anyone have a suggestion as to wiring them? If no interest, that's OK too.
I will ask $1.99 to cover shipping them well protected in padded envelope.
Will

Default Re: FREE 650nm Laser Diode for Dummy Loads

I think it's nice of you to do, but I don't see it serving a purpose for dummy loads. It will just die out and not work once you try running hundreds of mAs through it. In the end, I don't believe it would function properly as a dummy load. Though someone may correct me if i'm wrong^^.

However, I do think this would be a great opportunity for some new young folks to grab a lot of diodes to test out. I know I broke a good amount in the beginning, and breaking a lot for $2 is better than a lot around $15-$20 each (the old prices of PHR).

The units would not carry the full load. They would be off to the side, in parallel with a resistor, etc. I don't have time to figure out the circuit, but I just threw the idea out there.
Thanks for the comments.
