with all due respect...its not much of a labbie...looks like it could roll off the table.

Heh heh. It's stabilized by your immagination. It's not a labbie, it's a labbie heatsink. The idea is to mount it to a box or angle plate.

That would look really good, if you slapped a barrel on it. For a cr123 or even a 18650 cell.
It would make one slick host.

That's what I was thinking too. At 7/8" diameter it could nicely fit many hosts without looking awkward.

It definitely should be flat on the bottom.. other than that I like it.

I could offer them both ways. It costs me nothing to mill a flat on the bottom. How would you secure it though?

Thanks. I don't think I was suggesting buying the tool to make just one. But I guess a lot of people do build just one. Does the setscrew on your Al one hold the diode or a module?

Module.

I do think yours is bad a$$, just not user friendly.

That is similar to the design that I came up with a few months back. It seemed like a good design until Rog pointed out that I would need flying leads on my diode. I never even got near a lathe to build a prototype. Personally I think it is a great design.

What if you were to cut out a section for the back of the diode to be accessable to a soldering iron?

Peace,

Sorry to bastardize your design with Windows Paint.

If you mill a channel at the back corner. this could solve the problem of accessing the back of the diode for soldering.

Peace ,

Steve

Heh heh heh: cool tat. Yea, that's a good idea. I'd probably have to do that top and bottom though to accomodate directly soldered driver boards (you gotta solder both sides.) I think that if I ever get off of my ass, I'll offer these prebuilt -epoxy painted and mounted to a cube containing a regulator with a 1/4-20 bottom mounting hole- and a second -shorter and with a larger diameter- version for DIYers. What if I just bored a 3/8" hole straight through the thing. Does everyone have their pointy pointy soldering iron handy? I actually wanted to make this thing with two more fins. Yours could well be the soln.
